If you have access to the email account, look for old emails from steam. Ideal would be a receipt from when you purchased a game.
The usually start with a greeting "Hello <account name>".
The account name is what you use when logging in to your account.
Use that account name to reset your password.
Is this account you're posting from the account you recovered?
Yet those major changes did not affect other old accounts somehow? As with most such claims, the simplest explanation is often the correct one. You're on the wrong account.
You are 100% on the wrong account. We hear this story ALL THE TIME.
"No i really dont have any other account!"
And in the end its ALWAYS another account they completely forgot about.
Be aware that you can register as many accounts to the same email address as you want, even with the same name. So its super easy to accidentally create another account instead of login to a existing one.
I suspect the account you now use was created at the same time when you created your main account you are using for the last 10 years and you did not even notice that you accidentally made 2 accounts at that time.
So the account you recovered was another one you created in 2012 , NOT the original 2004/05 one.

its a good feeling to have it back more for sentimental value than anything.
