How do I escalate a refund under the new Steam Support for refunds?
I have an Early Access game that I have only played for 90 minutes. I bought it over a year ago. Steam Support has refused my refund request twice now, even after a detailed explanation.

The problem is, I bought the game while meeting the system requirements. Then, this EA developer decided, more than a year after my purchase, to change the game engine, upgrading the requirements to well outside my machine. I now have a paperweight in my Steam library.

I am frustrated with the lack of support I'm getting. I can't find how to escalate the refund claim under the new system. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

You can contact support. But if they say no, that is your answer. Personally, I doubt you will get the refund. You accepted the fact that there were no refunds when you bought the game. The refund policy is not retroactive.

Unfortunately, if the purchase was over 2 weeks ago you won't get a refund. The good news is that game will be waiting for you on your account when you buy a new computer. Last, there is no such thing as escalation with Steam support; they're flat and don't have people above the support folks.
Thanks for the information. I appreciate it.

However, I still find this practice of obsoleting a game after receiving payment, but prior to release, to be grossly unaccetable.

Games can also become obsoleted by not receiving updates for new hardware (which might be what happened here). No software is guaranteed to work forever. Not to mention, early access software might never be completed; if it's not a risk you're willing to take then steer clear of EA.

Oh, I know. it happens all the time, but with older games. But we're not talking about old games. Nobody expects to have Diablo 2 receive updates until the end of time. ;)

I take issue with the fact that this happened before the game even got released. It's not that the game wasn't updated, it's that I'll not get the game I paid for in the first place.

Sure, it'll be there, if I decide to upgrade again (and I just did). But that's not the point. You're right, though. Lesson learned, and I won't be buying Early Access games from this point on.

Thanks for taking the time to bring me the bad news. I appreciate it all the same. :)

Unfortunately, if you bought that game during EA release, there is nothing you can do if the dev decides to change or even abandon the game.
