Is hamachi safe to use?
Me and my friends want to play HoI 3 with hamachi because there's no other way anymore and I was wondering if it was safe, I trust the guy but he might have any viruses that can transfer through his computer? Or that's not possible?

If you get it from official sources, it's safe. I'd recommend Tunngle though, it's just way better.

Hopefully you and your friend both live in the same region.

Otherwise either one of you would be violating the SSA by using a proxy server in between.

What does that mean? We're not in the same region, we're both from Europe, though

Ignore him as that is not relevant.

Basically means this,

http://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/
You agree that you will not use IP proxying or other methods to disguise the place of your residence, whether to circumvent geographical restrictions on game content, to purchase at pricing not applicable to your geography, or for any other purpose. If you do this, we may terminate your access to your Account.

Really?

Despite the "For any other purpose" ?

I know some games suggest using Hamachi and Tunngle and the like, but honestly.

Which is something that Hamachi or Tunngle do not do at all. Unlike VPN services they tunnel only certain game related traffic, everything else goes through your normal internet connection, so it doesn't affect Steam in the slightest.
Basically they create a virtual LAN so that games with no online multiplayer can be played through that virtual LAN over the internet.

Used it quite a lot for older games and never had any issues.

Can anything harmful pass through the tunnel taht hamachi creates? For example something like a virus that goes through unintentionally without him wanting?
Cathulhu Aug 25, 2015 @ 3:59am
In theory yes, if his PC is infected, it can in theory use that tunnel to get to your PC.

yes

Sounds really riskly because I don't think he protects himself much.

My only concern was that he could unintentionally infect me with anything and I'm paranoid about it so I don't know about using hamachi, would you guys use it if you trust your friend?
Cathulhu Aug 25, 2015 @ 4:06am
As i said, i prefer Tunngle, but with the few i do trust, i use it.

By the way we played like four hours yesterday and i dont think anything went through, you think if yesterday nothing happened now it will?

I play with my friends, on LAN servers with Hamachi, and nobody had any prob since then, but like it was said, if your friend isn´t to aware of is computer safety, then ask him to make a full scan with windows defender, by now WD is way better and he detects any virus imediatly
(i hope this will help to calm down)
