Does banning an account for the use of VPN, bans the IP as well or just the account?
I was the victim of a misconduct and my fate is in a support ticket explaining what happened. I have not been banned yet. I just want to know what will happen.

If they decided to ban me, do they ban the IP as well? or just the account? TY

They ban the account

IP bans are worthless since changing you IP is mostly trivial
They don't do IP bans, since anyone who gets their IP banned would just use another one.
Bans are by account and are not complete... If you get banned by steam, completely, you lose all interaction in Steam, access to community, ability to buy anything in the store and lose access to all games that require online access to or through steam to play... It does not stop you from interacting with your library or playing games that can be played offline.

It is possible to completely lose access to your account but it would take a lot more than just using a VPN.

Also, with a VPN, they could not ban your IP anyway, because the VPN masks your IP and replaces it with theirs.

Finally, using a VPN is not against Steams rules except under the condition that you are using it to bypass copy protection, or to buy games that are banned in your region.

From the SSA:
You agree that you will not use IP proxying or other methods to disguise the place of your residence, whether to circumvent geographical restrictions on game content, to purchase at pricing not applicable to your geography, or for any other purpose. If you do this, we may terminate your access to your Account.

Personally I would not recommend anyone using VPN at all.

It's worded that way for the legal reason of letting them include any other reason they see fit that they did not include in the original statement, not for the sheer purpose of using a VPN.

As an example of a use they would not ban for even if they were aware:

International business man travels all the time, plays games on his laptop through Steam to pass the time. If this business man set up a VPN that always had him logging in from his home country of residence instead of wherever his current hotel room is, that would be a legitimate and justifiable use of a VPN on Steam.

The stress in that statement is not VPN.. It's disquising your place of residence.by ANY means.. VPN is just the example they use... So what it is saying is that they will not tolerate someone circumventing anything in Steam by hiding their true location... or more specifically, as worded: Residency... It is not restricting the use of VPNs in general.

Another legit use of a VPN they wouldn't mind is if you are just using one for security reasons but the VPN gateway you are using is near and in the same region as you actually live.

Yes.

Besides, some people even share the same WAN IP.

Exactly why I would not recommend anyone to use a VPN, no matter what the purpose would be, they did tell you it is against their rules (SSA)

I read them, However sometimes you may have to get the same piece of information from different people to make sure it's accurate and satisfactory

Sorry if I made you feel that way
