You need to get a controller specifically designed for gaming on a PC or Macbook. You can't use any console controller
PS4 and 3 work under some emulators for some people, but how would you plug in a PS2 controller to your computer?
It needs to have a USB 3 connector port

I do not really use any Sony consoles, the PS2 was the last one for me. I use Xbox instead, but the ps2s controller just felt the best.
Not sure about Mac, but USB adaptors do exist: http://www.amazon.com/Trenro-Dual-PlayStation-Controller-Adapter-2/dp/B000F6BGXY I believe there are quite a number of different brands floating around, hopefully one of them has drivers/sofware suitable for a Mac.
