Steam Card from Best Buy "does not appear to be activated"?
Hey everyone,

So I bought a $20 steam card about 8 hours ago from Best Buy and tried to redeem it about 2 hours ago. I get the following error when I try to redeem it:

"The Steam Wallet code you have entered does not appear to be activated. Please note that it may take several hours after time of purchase before activation is completed by your retailer. If the problem persists, please return to where the code was purchased for further assistance."

Has this happened to anyone else? And does anyone know a quick fix to this or is Best Buy customer service my only hope of regaining my lost $20 dollars?

Help and tips appreciated.
Thanks.

The best option to fix that is go to your retailer you had got the steam card from and then see if they have activated it yet or ask how long etc, if they haven't you must then ask for a refund due to them not activating the card for you to use on Steam.

Thanks for replying. I suspected as much. Was really hoping that there could be a quick workaround to this as I don't think I'll have time to drop back to Best Buy. Probably gonna buy the rest of my cards from Wal-Mart from now on. Never had trouble there. Thanks again.

Well actually you could actually phone them up maybe and ask about how long do you need to wait for the steam card to be activated is another way.

The person at the counter likely just forgot to activate it when you bought it. I got a couple from Best Buy a few days ago and they worked right away.

I had a similar experience yesterday and today. Both Steam and Best Buy couldn’t really help. I went to Best Buy for the fourth time to activate the card, and they kept saying I needed to speak with Steam support. When I reached out to Steam, they basically said the same thing, that I needed to get Best Buy to activate the code. So both of them are pointing fingers at each other directly. Additionally, Steam support is being ridiculous. They require the manager's name in order to speak to them, but I only handed them the phone number to be able to reach them. Steam can no longer help.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
