Adding a NON-Steam Game?
ok, so I have heaps of non-steam games. Some on disk and others installed on an expansion pack.
(all bought legit)
I was wondering, if I were to add a non-steam game to steam, will the game be installed into steam?
Or.. will the game have like a link in Steam - but will still require the game to be installed somewhere else on the PC?

Also, If I am able to install the game directly into my Steam Library, If I were to later install and access my Steam account on another computer - will the game come up with the other Steam bought games to be installed on the new PC?

I know this has probs been asked before on another Forum Post - But thought this might be a bit quicker and more up to date answers.

All it does is add a shortcut to the .exe to your library, it doesn't add anything to your Steam account. Also you may be able to use the Steam overlay ingame depending on the game, and your friends can see what you're playing, but that's all.

ahh ok, so.. if I were to install the game into the Steamapps folder - will it then be permently installed into my Steam Profile and Games Library? Or will it sorta break Steam or something?

-Because that's where I've noticed all Games and Progress is located for Steam to access-

It will just run the game. It doesn't add the game to your account or profile.

Steam has no way of knowing what game you're running anyway. It just runs whatever you add. You can add Notepad as a non-Steam game and rename it to Team Fortress 3 if you want.
