Steam Client Running Slow
So 99.9% of the time my steam client runs fast (ex. switching between store, community etc.) even when running multiple updates etc. however it has been running horribly slow and using an excessive amount of CPU even while sitting in an idle state. Its to the point where I can barley use it. Please Help! Also it shows that steam is 'not responding' when I bring up my task manager

Is this during a current installation of anything through your client? How large is your Steam.exe process, and if applicable, "steamwebhelper.exe"?

It was during an update installation of ARK:Survival Evolved however this still persisted after the installation ended, as for the rest, im not sure what you mean by how large is my Steam.exe or how to check how large it is

Select the tab "Processes" in your Taskmanager.

When I bring up my task manager it often say Steam Client Bootstrapper (32 bit), sometimes it will be fine, then it will say not responding. Its usually averaging 0.1-3.0 % of my CPU but upwards to 5.0 occasionally and only about 19 MB of memory
You don't have Steam.exe*32 nor Steamwebhelper.exe*32 in Taskmanager-> Processes? You should, and these processes should be vissible without the need to show processes of all users.

Maybe "Refresh Your Steam Files"

could help, yet i fear this needs a full re-installation.

Before un-/re-installation of Steam you might want to back up
  • your screenshots,
  • same folder as the screenshots, Steam\UserData might contain gamesaves that are not saved into "My Games" or the Steam Cloud.
  • Steam\Music if you have DLC Soundtracks,
  • Steam\SteamApps\Common, where your games are stored,
  • Back-ups of games if you backed them up using the Steam Service. F.e. would need that when in the midst of modding a game. Mostly not needed if you backed up Steam\SteamApps\Common

SOLUTION: go to steam settings, browser tab, and click delete the web browser cache and delete browser cookies.

Worked for me after having the problem for a day. I tried everything short of reinstalling when this worked. Good luck!

Alexander_Roxin, this is a 2 year old thread and your "solution" doesn't do anything when the complete Steam Client is slow. Deleting browser cache and cookies is one of several possible solutions for when the browser is slow. The Client - see title - is a lot more then just the browser.
Furthermore, it's the Summer Sales now. The Steam servers can not handle the many miljons of Ppl trying to view the Store pages. Deleting anything on our computers can't solve current troubles with that.

Well I didnt think this would fix my slow client issues (unable to drag windows, text taking ~15 seconds to appear after bing typed etc) but it did. I guess Steam weirdly uses browser client data to handle pure client stuff?
Either way, thanks Alexander_Roxin for the fix!
