Steam voice chat incomaptible with XLR inputs?
Steam recognizes my audio interface (line 6 UX2), but it doesn't pick up my Shure SM57 during a test. Doesn't work in game either (CSGO). I know it's not my interface or my mic, because it works pretty much anywhere else.

Also, before somebody tells me to just use a regular headset, or a mic with a 1/8", my PC's soundcard pretty much died a long time ago and I haven't bothered with replacing it since, since using my audio interface works pretty well for everything I need. Also I don't have a gaming headset, just headsets designed for audio production.

FYI I'm using Windows 10

Do any of these help?

Also it's generaly not a good idea to use a non-gaming headset. It's known to have problems as they were never meant to do such a thing. So I think you should try getting a gaming headset instead.

None of those things seem to work. Also, getting a gaming headset wouldn't do me any good, I don't have anywhere to connect the headset to. Like I said in the original post, my PC's internal soundcard died years ago and I've been using my audio interface since. Also I hardly see how my headset makes a difference considering that all it's doing is receiving audio through my interface, nothing more. Steam is the only thing I have issues with, other games work just fine with my interface, and it picks up my XLR input mic just fine.

Seemed to get it to work, all I had to do was switch my mic to something else by default then go back to it again. Weird.

Hambloko! Did that really work for you? That method doesn't work for me. I have a RODE NT-1A with and mbox pro audio interface. I've accepted the fact that I can't communicate over voice chat on CS:GO. When I try to test the mic through steam it doesn't pick up the sound. When I switch to my webcam (as Default Device) it works.

My microphone works on everything else except steam. Frustrating having to switch between them all the time.
