Spore key isn't working

So I searched up Spore in the Steam store,and to my suprise,it has it on there. I haad the disc version,so I fgured I could use the key I got from the manual for Steam. I'm pretty sure when I tried to activate it,that it said to use the retail CD key.

Just because the game is on Steam doesn't mean you can activate the key on here.

It's not on the list of keys that are accepted https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-wusf-3601

If you try and it says its an invalid key then you just can't activate it.

Some games allow that, some don't. Here's a list of some games that do allow that.

Spore is not on that list, so it's not likely it can be added. (Especially since it's an EA game...)

For what it's worth, I believe Spore CD-keys can be redeemed on EA's service, Origin.

I have the disc,I was just wondering if I could get a non-physical copy too.
