Attempting to run Pariah
So i bought a disk copy of pariah today, no it is not pirated or copied before anyone asks. i got it at a used retro game store.

anywaythis game refuses to launch. i've tried running in compatibility mode and running as administrator but i just get a small logo screen before it closes and nothing happens.

anyone have any ideas? is it incompatible hardware? maybe it just cant run on windows 7?

Alot of older disc media/games are like that on Vista and later OS.
Try navigating through the disc contents from Computer; then looking for the main "Install" or "Setup" .EXE and right click > run as Admin.

Sometimes the OS will simply block the auto-run, and thus the product appears to no longer work properly.

currently running it as administrator and in compatibility mode for windows xp sp 2. do you think it could be a setting in the ini file not allowing it to start?

i'll give the setup compatibility change a go now

Well I know it works under 2000/XP 32bit and Win7 32/64bit
Will not work under Win10, due to SafeDisc DRM blocking.

Do you have any anti-virus suite running?

And you shouldn't need any "compatability modes"
Just "run as admin"

With online searches of that game; No issues finding info for that game related to; Game History; Patch Updates; Config Tweaks

Not finding anything to indicate possibles issues related to Win7; aside from a few things related to game crashing. Quite normal to see such info though.

Wish I could be more help to u.

ok so update i installed the 1.03 patch and now the logo screen pops up and tells me the application failed to start correctly with a string of number code that suggests corrupted dll files. but i reinstalled the patch and the same thing happened. weird stuff

I own Pariah and it will not run on Win 7. I played it on an old XP pc I had. The game was fun for it's time, but it isn't much of a game by todays standards

Edit; It may not just be a Win 7 issue, it could also be that the game will not run on a muti-core CPU.

Pariah is one of the few games I bought on launch during my WoW period :)

Couldn't get it to run proper just 1.5 or 2 years later. It is very "optimized" for the hardware+drivers around its release.

edit: I got max payne to work on win 7 by launching the game set to use only 1 cpu
open a textfile and put in something like this:
"start /affinity 1 pariah.exe"

then save it as launch.cmd in the gamefolder

that actually makes a lot of sense. now i suppose that command line would work automatically when i launch the exe or do i launch it manually?

reinstalling without patch see if it works with the cmd file

you'll have to run the cmd-script instead of launching the game through steam.

another thought: did you try to disable steam overlay for the game?
