H drive renamed to I drive by update, cannot access games without redownloading [solved]
So, I have a number of my games on an external HD. Before a recent HP update, the port was registered as my "H" drive. After the update, it connects to my "I" drive and I can no longer access the games, probably because instead of recognizing the library, Steam attempts to find the path with "H" in the address. Problem is, I can't just make a new library in the I drive, and have steam recognize that this is the same library. Instead, it just says that it can't have a root folder inside of another Steam root folder.

So, I can't make new folder under "I", I can't access "H", and there is no room on the computer itself. What can I do?

go to controle panel>administrative tools>computer management>storage open the next option and just rename them back to the correct drive letter.
right click on them.

Thank you very much, your information was useful, thorough, and clear.

The irony though when you get that message that pops up "Changing the drive letter [may cause programs that rely on correct addresses not to work properly]". You think!? Might want to tell your customers how to fix any potential problems before you change the letter associated with our drives HP! *facepalm*.

Anyway, thank you very much.
