Steam overlay - shift+tab - not working - possible fix for someone

For about a week or so I could not use steam chat and make print sceens in Black Ops 3.
It stopped working suddenly. There are a few possible causes (firewall, antivirus programs, fraps) and fixes. None of that worked for me. Today I found out, that disabling Razer Synapse fixes issue of not working overlay. Dont really know why, but every time I logged in my "old" synapse account, overlay stopped working. So I registered under new account and I have no problems since then. Dont forget to restart steam after changes (disable synapse) are made. I believe this may help someone.

i was having the same problem. i changed the shortcut bind key to Ctrl-tab. It worked after that, you can change it to anything you want as well. should work .Steam->Settings->In-Game->Overlay shortcut keys.

check keyboard profile . some keyboards have windows keylock and some had multimedia that kick in and change layout.

This was not about keyboard layout or shortcut key bind. Steam chat was working in any other games except of BO3. The application (steam overlay) did not even start, normaly you get message in right top corner, that you can use steam in game chat, this was not happening at all. But thank you all for tips :-D

also test if it work in a another game then it could be that game that had a issue and contact game support and steam support and let them look at it

Thank you so much. I had been dealing with this problem since second day I got it. Finally I found a fix. Thank you :D I instantly tried both (closing razer synapse and changin hotkey of the overlay) together so can't really say what solution fixed the bug but thanks anyways :)

I read on another discussion, if you have FRAPS running that will stop steam overlay too

I have the exact same problem i tried changing the key to open steam overlay it didn't work and i tried enabling and disabling steam overlay. It works on every game but this B03. please help. : )

Are you using razer synapse? If so, try to disable/uninstall it, or cereate a new account in razer synapse. Worked for me.

Steam settings is not GLOBAL settings for overlay. Goto your game library > right click on a game > properties > on the first tab there is an OPTION to for steam overly for JUST THAT ONE SPECIFIC GAME.
