Windows 10 - Xbox One Controller - home button not working
I'm on Windows 10 and updated to 1511 today. Now the home button on my Xbox One Controller is not working in Steam anymore. For example in-game it is supposed to bring up the Steam overlay, but not anymore, nothing is happening. Other controller functions are fine. The button itself is fine too, it brings up Game DVR if activated.

Maybe someone can confirm the problem.

Thank you!

this worked for me using the latest drivers :
Open the xbox app, turn gamedvr on, hit Win+G to open gamedvr overlay, go to gamedvr settings in that overlay, and turn off the option that opens the gamedvr with the guide button, close the gamedvr options and then turn off gamedvr from the xbox app.

Thanks a lot, Salazar547!

U run Steam Client, then press the button. It does nothing once in-game unless you're running BPM. Make sure and use Steam Client Beta as well.

thanks for reply, my steam just updated itself, now pressing home launch the big picture mode, but during in game the steam overlay just wont open, nor has any function, ill try beta and report back, thanks again brom are u using win10 64bit woth xbox one pad and wireless adapter kit too? does it work for u
Hello everyone, wanted to post my solution to the problem here because this seems to be one of the main discussion threads on steam about this topic. I managed to fix the problem without messing with drivers at all.
The cause is the Xbox app in Windows 10. The Xbox app has it's own overlay that uses the same button (the home button). I had previously disabled Game DVR from the Xbox app, but the steam overlay still did not work.
To fix this you must first turn Game DVR back on from the Xbox app. Then run any steam game in Windowed mode and press Win + G. This will bring up the Xbox game bar. Towards the right of the bar there is a gear icon. This brings up a unique settings menu not found in the main Xbox app. There will be a checked option that says "Open game bar when pressing (Home button) on a controller". Un check that box! Your Steam overlay will work again!
You can leave the Xbox Game DVR on if you like, you will just have to use the keyboad shortcuts in order to record. Hope this helps someone!
tried nope it didnt work too i think its the new steam version fault not the dvr
It works normally for me on 360, One, and Steam Controllers
So IDK, it's on your end bud.
And I always have my Steam Client opt'ed into Beta
just tested, on both pc, and on my friend using elite controller and wireless adpter kit, doesnt work too... i suspect the wireless adapter drivers, not too sure though... are u using cable?
All mine are Wireless
Tested in Win7 SP1 Pro 64bit and Win10 Pro 64bit

Microsoft's XboxOne controller works both ways though, so try it via USB cable (without batteries installed) and see.

my overlay works only via keyboard after doing this, not the xbox one home button, pressing home button does nothing in game. does yours works?
Could be your XboxOne controller / wireless adapter.
The default drivers are usually the issue; go into device manager and change them manually for the wireless adapter and controller.

can u share ur driver version for your adapter? mine is 21.50.45.656 , dated 12/8/2015
Oh my god Thank you so much for the solution.
Hi, I've also found that as well as turning off the gamedvr setting, Steam Big Picture mode would only work if I did a double-tap on the Xbox One home button (my previous 360 controller required a long press of the home button). I'm using an Xbox One Wireless Controller with the Windows Xbox One Wireless adapter.
You Sir are the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ master! Thank you.
Thanks. This was driving me crazy.
