Failed to load .dll and infinite update loop solved for me.

So I will just post this here and maybe it can help someone else out. I had the .dll problem after the new update, so I tried to do a uninstall/reinstall but that didn't work and it put me into an invinite update loop. This is what I did and it's worked. I can close steam and start up steam again [yay!]

I reinstalled in a different folder on my desktop, copied the shortcut from the new folder to desktop and changed the shortcut name with extensions [name in " " -tcp -client_beta client_candidate in general tab in properties] I checked 'run as admin' in general settings, and then made a new taskbar shortcut.

Then I turned off my firewall.

I then right clicked on the taskbar icon and clicked Friendlist [-activity or Library also work]
It asked me for admin approval and did it's update, then a possibly fake update once and then warned me that I was loading steam with 'unsuitable extensions' [it's the admin box it's moaning about] I ignored it completely and proceeded anyway.

I turned my firewall back on at this point. Steam started up.

Now to start steam I only have to right click the taskbar icon and click the same stuff [friends -activity or Library] for it to do the fake update and warning again, BUT I can do everything I want on steam. See if that works for you guys?

Yesterday I had to help one of my friends who had the same problem.
In his case a normal reinstallation of steam worked.

You're welcome folks :) Glad this fixed bugs for some people! Since the last update I am able to run steam just with the -tcp and admin settings. Have not had many problems since.
If it doesn't work for others, let me know so I can investigate!

It did for me and I fixed my fiance's tf2 the same way 2 weeks ago <3 just try it and see, if it doesn't work, at least you tried.

Yes. After installing a new version [+folder] on desktop, copy the .exe from this new folder to your desktop. Then rightclick this .exe and change the name with the extensions EXAMPLE the original shortcut name is steam.exe. You have to change it into
"steam.exe" -tcp -client_beta client_candidate
in general tab in properties, and check the 'Run as admin'box. Save.
Drag your new extension to your taskbar to create a new shortcut. Rightclick this shortcut and it will give you a list of options. If you now click something like Friendlist or Library, it will now do another short update. If it loops, just click it away ['cancel'] and it will start steam.
