Free Steam Game Key Codes?
Someone just randomly added me and gave me a code. They said it is a free game. Im a little nervous to trust a random stranger so I was just wondering can the code be for anything negative? I can't imagine how but I don't take risk when it comes to strangers and my account. Can entering a code in the "Activate a product on Steam" section result in anything negative or a virus or lose of my account, etc.? :fsad:

The code either works, or doesn't work.

I wouldn't add it though as it might be used to try to hijack your account. Don't accept candy from strangers and such.

So it is possible to do that via code? :rshocked:

It's possible to attempt it yes. They might not get anywhere, or they may already have other info on you.

Use it or not is entirely up to you. I personally wouldn't trust a key from some random person who added me out of the blue.
Basically: Steam gifts are OK, but CD keys are not safe.

It should be ok to key-in codes but NOT clicking hyperlinks.
If the CD keys are from revoked or pirated games you risk losing your Steam account.

As more than one person is going to use each code, what do you think will happen?

They will all eventually get flagged as pirated CD keys and revoked, and you might get your Steam account permanently blocked as a result.

It could also be from a Group that you belong to. Some of the Groups give out keys as prizes...at least I thought they did.
How do you know you can trust the CD keys from a shady group?

I never said that you could, just that could be the reason why he got one (he belongs to 70 Groups, after all). Also, some of the larger Groups don't seem to be too shady (such as PC Gamer, for example), but I would definitely take the smaller (or newer) Groups with a grain of salt and a touch of hesitation for sure.

d0nt-us3-th1s-c0d3 (Not what I originally typed lol)

From Steam user: B
(he has a Beat Hazard symbol for his Icon like this ---->:bh:)

Alright, heres the code. I don't trust it so I havn't used it. If anyone else is willing to risk it go ahead and take it. Use it as evidence for Steam admins if it's something bad and try to get the guy band. Or get a free game and thank the guy later. Either way let us know what happens please!

Pft thanks Steam. Guess I can't post a code on here. But if Steam auto blocks that stuff there must be a reason right? Guess it's bad news after all.

It might be a scam attempt. It's better not to redeem that code to your account.
