Person sent fake steam wallet code for CS:GO skin, code did not work, therefore I did not give them skin.
Someone tried sending me a fake steam wallet code, for my mac-10 fade. They sent it first and I checked it to see if it was a legit code, steam said it was invalid so I said "sorry its not a real code." They then said I redeemed the code which I did not, and tried to scam them. I reported them for attempted scam and I would have also for harrasment lol. But what do you guys think? Sorta bugging me that he thinks I am scamming him.

This is why you never trade with codes ever. Sell it on the market instead.

What trades should I avoid?

Do not trade for anything that cannot be added into the trade window within Steam. The most common examples of these scenarios are the following:

Trading items/gifts for CD Keys. You cannot add a CD Key into the trade window. CD Keys that are offered can be for a different game, fake, used or region restricted.

Also you know there is no such thing as "checking if is a legit code" right? Either it's real and you got it and they can never get it back or not. Sounds like you both did bad stuff.

Interesting. But having it not actually redeem, means I did nothing to the card. I just thought it was a pretty lousy scam on his end.

But if they weren't scamming you the money would leave the card and you could have run away with the item.
Maybe they didn't know it was used because they got it from someone else? And now they thought you got the money.
If they got the key from somewhere else they can't know if it is used or not without potentially using it themselves, maybe they where just as clumsy as you.

I agree, I think i'm safe because Steam can access my account and see that I never redeemed the key. Someone has never tried to scam me before so it was interesting seeing the guilt tactic they used against me.

I'm gonna plays devils advocate here.

Yes, Steam will see that you have not activated the card on your account but how can you prove that you have not sold the code to a friend or kept it and not activated it yet?

It is completely possible that someone could do that and get trade banned because they cannot prove otherwise.

They can tell which account activated it at whichever time. Which when he gave it to me it was activated, so they can see the acount and when it was activated.

Don't trade for codes, they are a common scam that targets new users to trading.
