Steam Wallet Codes Australia
Usually when I buy a $20 Steam wallet gift card, it gives me the straight up $20. During those instances, I was buying from EB Games, which charged $29 for a $20 steam code (supposedly to account for exchange rates).

Today I bought a $20 steam code from Woolworths, and they were actually selling them for $20 upfront. But when I redeemed the wallet code today, Steam actually calculated and accounted for exchange rates after entering the code. It prompted me that the $20 would be converted to $14, and I was instead credited the $14.

Was this some recent universal change on Steam affecting all Australian steam wallet codes? Did this happen because the exchange rate wasn't accounted for at the Wooloworths checkout? Does this mean that there are two types of wallet codes (one that accounts for exchange rates, and one that doesn't)? I want someone else's judgement, and possibly their experience in a similar situation if they have any.

Just another thing I suggest buying steam cards from coles and woolworths because it changes it to USD automatically on steam making you get the right ammount of money. The Eb games ones are $29 AUD for $20 USD but $29 AUD really = $22 USD. Really you should be paying $26 AUD for a $20 USD one

Also, they are selling Steam Wallet Codes in South Australia for 27 AUD, not 29

I originally thought I was simply buying it in USD (which justified the higher AUD price charged at EB Games). I just assumed that the Steam Wallet codes sold at Woolworths were the exact same. After doing the obvious and looking at the back of the Woolworths wallet code, it does indeed state that the currency will be converted from your local currency to USD.

So previous case:
Buy Steam Wallet Code at EB Games. Priced at 29AUD after EB Games automatically performs currency conversion of USD to AUD, and credits 20USD on Steam.

Current case:
Buy Steam Wallet Code at Woolworths. Priced at 20AUD at Woolworths, and credits roughly 14USD on Steam after Steam performs currency conversion of AUD to USD.

Ok I think I understand it now. However I do wonder if this change also occurred at EB Games. EB Games still seems to convert the currency from USD to AUD themselves and mark the price up to 29AUD themselves. But this would seem redundant if Steam is going to convert the currency back to USD anyway.

dont buy them at eb games either i just got $14 insted of $20, i was 4 cents off csgo

You can't... You already have one

all I have gained from this is that if I don't buy the cards from EB games I get it slightly cheaper due to a more accurate exchange taking place by steam. Am I comprehending this correctly?

Thanks for this.

So just to confirm you saying Coles and Woolies cost AUD20 and you get USD20?

Not checked their prices. I only ever bought from BigW a AU20 card and got USD14. Wasn't happy and haven't bought one since!

If you buy from woolies and Coles you will get roughly around 14-15 dollars because you are not paying for the exchange rate, I would personally buy from EBGames even though you end up paying like 28 for 20USD it's worth it compared to paying 20 for 15USD.
I buy it from EBGames because I am currently buying skins on CSGO to trade with my knife so I want to be able to get the full 20USD so I can trade up faster

DO NOT BUY FROM WOOLWORTHS OR COLES IF YOU ARE EXPECTING 20AUD FOR 20USD, IT AIN'T GOING TO HAPPEN!

When i have gone to EBgames i had been checking the exchange rate and got the exact amount of money i needed to exchange into how much USD i wanted. but when i went to EBgames it wasnt enough. (I did check that the exchange rate was still the same when i left) due to this i would asssume that ebgames does something increases the price slightly so they can actualy make money from the money exchange, assumably GST.
