Can't get wireless 360 controller connected, driver issues
I have a wireless 360 controller receiver that seems to powering on fine and a working wireless 360 controller, but the drivers are playing games with me. I started by downloading the drivers from the microsoft website, but I get a message saying they're already installed. I've been using a wired controller for a while now and I believe it thinks they are the same thing. I can't get it to work and would appreciate any help you guys might have.

U have to go through the "Connect" process; are u doing this?
The Drivers are the same for all 360 Controllers; there is no "different" one to use.

Connect process, as in connecting the controller to the receiver? That is what's not working.
I've read a few things about needed to update something with "microsoft common controller" but that isn't even in my device manager.

To whom it may concern, I got it working but it involved some deep menu diving and several uninstalls and another install.

what reciever are you using?

if its not ms branded, it will take a few tries to get the drivers installed

No need for a Disc; the Drivers or done via Windows Updates.
All u need is any Xbox360 Wirless Controller and the Official MS 360 Wireless USB adapter.

If it is not an official adapter; then good luck getting your controller(s) to work.

As for the connect / binding / pairing process:
- Connect USB adapter
- Turn on Controller
- Press the Connect button on Receiver
- Press the connect button on controller
- Then ring should then change to a solid 1 - 4, depending on the connected controller; if u only have one controller, then only the upper-left player-1 should light up and stay lit. Down the road, after the controller works; spinning LEDs can indicate connection problems; blinking LEDs can indicate low battery.

If you installed the drivers from Microsoft's website; uninstall those then turn on your Controller and have it connected to wireless receiver; then do manual Check for Updates via Windows Updates and then download/install that driver.

Please note that you must have .NET Framework 4.xx installed/updated or such Drivers will not work.

I don't know if you guys are now just adding helpful tips for others or didn't read that I fixed it myself. I knew how to connect the controller to the receiver. The problem was that my computer was thinking the receiver was the wired controller I was using before. After I uninstalled that, the receiver became an unknown device in the Device Manager. So I had to go manually update the driver by selecting the right one. Thanks tho

Yea and u didn't have to do any of that.

All u had to do was get the driver from Windows Updates.
