Steam Link - Controller Settings / Mapping
I'm interested in using my DS4 (connected via Bluetooth to the Steam Link) on a Dolphin Emulator. The DS4 linked easily to the Link, but it adopted its "default" mapping, where the analogue sticks function something like trackballs, the X button is Enter, the Circle button is Escape, etc.

I've attempted to add Dolphin as a non-Steam game to my library - and this works, as well. Upon launching from Steam, the controller is back to a normal XInput-wrapped device. However, launching a game from the Dolphin menu causes the controller settings to revert back to the Link standard. For reference, killing the emulation and getting back to the main Dolphin menu puts the controller back to its X-input wrapper.

I have, quite by accident, made it work once, but have failed to duplicate it by any means. Somehow, I was able to retain more control over the current "game" than normal (such that I could Alt-Tab in and out - which isn't possible normally over Steam Link running the Dolphin Emulator as a "game."

I'd like either a solution that lets me remap the controller's default actions (unlikely) over Steam Link, or to figure out how I managed to get Steam to treat the running Emulation like the "game" (rather than the emulator's main menu) and adopt the X-Input wrapper.

Any ideas?

I have a similar issue with a wired xbox 360 controller connected to the steam link.

I have read online that you can change mappings by making changes to the file in Steam\controller_base\steamdesktop.vdf
For me this is not a solution because:
1. The mapping from that file is not the mapping I get when out of big picture mode
2. Whatever changes I make to the file get reverted when I restart steam.

Anyone know what the issue could be and how to fix it?

If you're still wondering about this, I finally figured it out. When you are in Big Picture Mode go to the settings on the top and go down to controller configuration or something like that, there should be an option there to set your desktop map. Just change that to Gamepad from the default templates and it works. I already had my DS4 mapped as controller 2 so if you haven't done that already then I would suggest to do it first.

@MrZim4
I tried this, but still no luck. It sounds like you have a steam controller as #1....im working with a pair of Ds4s. I probably wouldnt mind getting a steam link controller, but im not going to bother if im not convinced it'll fix my problem.

anyone else had luck with this?

also, i tried the "Steam\controller_base\steamdesktop.vdf" option without luck..im quite frustrated.
