Why does PC gaming have unsmooth camera/mouse turning.
I've owned PCs most of my life, always been a PC gamer, always have and always will. But one thing that remains consistent through all my builds. From my early days up until my monster of a rig now they have all had one thing in common.

Turning the Controller/Mouse is never completely smooth, where as walking side ways and watching the world is smooth as silk

I've had this since my earliest days playing CS1.6 in my room like an anti social nerd to nowadays playing 1440P Metal Gear and Crysis 3. No matter what, Gsync, Vsync, Mouse, Controller. It all yields the same results.

It's never been an issue with FPS, never been an issue with frametimes, never been and issue with or without vsync. It's just always happened no matter what and i dont think there is a solution.

I recently build this computer from scratch, gave my old one to my Girlfriend, had weaker specs but i was baffled to see that even today on a rig that is capable of 4k (not that i use it) it still happens.

It's usually most noticable at 60fps vsync/gsync/whateversync/without gsync, i just wondered what causes it.

Turning camera always seems to be unsmooth, goes just fine then goes slowerish and fastish then it feels like its going around oddly. No idea. Mouse is just horrible at 60fps.

That doesn't sound normal at all. My mouse is always quite smooth. Maybe your sensitivity is too high?

It is normal, happened on every rig from a multitude of different components.

The mouse pad makes a big difference. Mice have different sensors that react different to various surfaces and feel different gliding across hard or soft pads etc. I use MarkC fix, 144hz monitor and the G502 for super accuracy. I'm still working on the pad, but can already tell a difference going from a hard to soft pad. The hard is a little rough and the soft is smooth. The soft sort of feels like dragging the mouse through mud trying to turn a lot in fps games so I stick to hard for now until I can try more pads. Another thing is the pre-rendered frames setting in NVIDIA Control Panel. It's the least laggy at 1x and smoother, but more laggy, at "application controlled" or all the way to 4x. It also helps to not have your graphics settings too high for your GPU. You get less mouse lag with less graphics lag. Beef up the GPU or lower settings some if the graphics are dragging you down a little. That shouldn't be much of an issue in most games with 970 SLI. Even that setup has it's weakness in certain games at certain resolutions. Playing online with lag causes all kinds of weird things to happen. Your mouse could also be worn down and need replaced. It was boss the first day using a new mouse. The old one always felt a little jittery and the new one is very smooth. The sensor is much better, but the new mouse also has new feet. It just feels smoother because it's new. The feet wear down from gliding around on the pad over time. Another thing is the mouse cord. They seem to always be in the way making turns in a game a little annoying. My mouse has a light braided cable and it still slightly annoys me. It's important to set the DPI and polling rate to good settings or your movements can be annoying.

You are using SLI. That can cause micro-stuttering.

But i'm not using SLi, it's turned off 90% of the time because it's only useful fort a few things.

could be mouse acceleration. turn it off for a more direct/responsive feel.
some people like/get used to mouse acceleration, i often forget about it when i reinstall windows and games just dont feel quite right.

That is pretty much day 1 windows install thing i do.

since then i got a new mouse/kb and sold my rig to get a gaming lapotop as i am working abroad and the issue is even on the new rig so it's jus tpc gaming in general.

yup widows setup 101- disable mouse accel!

maybe it is just pc in general ive have not played on a console for years to compare.
i have not noticed any slowdowns/speedups or jitteryness though(except when i push my poor systems limits)when i play the screen moves quite predictably smooth and accurate.
Honestly I feel the same about Controllers.
FPS Feb 4, 2016 @ 9:50am
It looks like a psychological issue

(more windows 101)just a thought but do you have enough swap space?
i set mines at 3 gig per drive.
and do your hard drives have enough space left on them to accomadate it.
i always leave a minimum of 5 gigs spare on any drive i have, because eating into swap space or filling hdd to the max slows them down.

ah, you have a laptop now,but if you still getting the same issues then its worth checking.
