Youtube videos crash steam overlay.

Everytime i click an Youtube video on any steam discussions steam overlay freezes. Cant click on my username and other things on Steam. So the only thing to do is to log off and in again. Lately there have been many Steam updates but none of them resolving this problem. Thank you.

Win 10 x64. (Steam & windows - stable ring) Open game. Shift+Tab. Browser. Youtube. Search anyvideo. Click. Done. Overlay not working but video still playing =) I can only use Shift+Tab again, but video playing in background. Sometime overlay unstacking. Valve fix browser/overlay pls X_x

It happened a few days ago when checking games on GREENLIGHT. Client freezed after a youtube video started rolling on a greenlight game page. Couldnt do anything but shut down the client.

is there any fix about this? I have been having this problems since months now. I thought it was a problem of the skin I use ( I use metro skin) but I think I had the same problem with the default standard steam skin.

It is very annoying, it makes impossible to watch most walkthroughs or guides that include some youtube video. It does not matter if it's on the youtube website or embedded in the steam guide.....while watching on the overlay, the overlay would crash making it impossible to close the window (and you keep hearing the sounds in the background). alt-tabbing is also very annoying. I didn't have this problem some time ago, did it start with a precise version? I am not using any steam beta.

Neither do I am on beta client at the moment, I dont think that matters, the beta forum is the only I found on steam with proper bug report threads. Take a read at early posts on this thread, as user Leopoldo has reported his tests on different systems and describes extensively how is this bug happening.

I've had this issue for years.

Still remains unfixed.

Steam's overlay freezes 75% of the time on anything with media content.

It also errors out if you have any ad servers blocked in your hosts file (error 105).

The overlay's web browser is pretty awful; which is a shame because it's so convenient.

actually by instaling adobe flash I 'fixed' the problem. I am aware that it should not have anything to do with the problem, but well guess what, I was having problems since months, then one day I played in the morning (I was playing Hitman and was checking at the same time youtube videos with the overlay to find all the collectibles in the game)....overlay was having problems as always. Found someone here saying something about adobe flash, I was very sure it could not mean anything....but well trying didn't cost anything so I updated (actually installed, not updated, since I use chrome I was never asked to install it because it is integrated in the browser). Guess what, in the evening I could watch dozens of videos, not a problem anymore.

Can't really know what happened, but it can also not be a coincidence....

Been having Steam overlay lock up on me for months now when trying to watch YouTube videos.

The issue seems to be related to the pop-up ad banners, which appear when the video hits the yellow mark on the timeline. The banner goes up - and the mouse cursor for the overlay disappears, leaving me unable to interact with the overlay. Happens 100% of the time. Can't even close the damn video - have to restart the game for that.

Btw, Installing Flash player did absolutely nothing.

It was not fixed. I am running the latest stable client and the issue is still reproducible 100% of the time.

Every time Chromium updates, Steam includes that on the client updates. This isnt to address an specific issue like overlay crash.

Are you running anything but Windows 7 Professional ,if you are,that is all I can think might be the problem.

How can that be the problem?. What does Win7 Pro that, say, Win7 Starter don't do?... or even Vista?

Please read earlier posts to know about other users experience with this issue on other systems.
