Has this been an issue for you before or is this your first time using the video playback? The first two things that come to mind are issues with your internet or possibly not enough RAM.

i only have this issue with videos on steam. the system and video buffering should not be a bottleneck i can see the video is downloaded very fast and the whole system is high-end.

some specs

internet: 100mbit fdx
ram: 32GB DDR4 3200
gfx: geforce 980TI

Possibly try using the Steam beta client is my only other thought then. Other than that, I have no idea, and the next poster might have a better idea than I. Sorry for not being super helpful.

Use a webbrowser of your choice and test if the videos get palyed there fine or not.
Could be an issue with the webm player as Steam is for longer not using flash anymore (as far as i know)

my post wasnt that clear. but i dont have any trouble on websites, no matter if its steampowered.com or another website using flash/webm videos. also playback in a dedicated player is fine.

im having this issue only in the steam client.... very sad :steamsad:

Put in a bug report so they're aware of it, and they'll get to it in one of the client updates. That's all I can really say. But that bug report is key, otherwise they won't know to fix it.
I have the same problem (Win 10 and Steam client), everything is working fine with a web browser. Did you find any solution? :voodoosnail:

no, sadly this issue remains unfixed.

my solution was not to use the steam client to watch videos/trailers.

I've been having this problem all year and have yet to find a fix, and the problem is exclusive to videos coming from Steam's servers. Any other server that provides video streaming doesn't seem to have this problem. YouTube is fine. Facebook is fine. Twitter is fine. MP4Upload is fine. Only Steam's video player seems to have this issue. I can't even watch it in any web browser without Steam's video player taking a crap.

Same problem here. Been going on for years and across multiple PCs. Sometimes better, sometimes worse.

150MB symmetric FiOS on a 5900X with 128GB of RAM and a 3070. All other videos play fine.

Hello all I think I have found a solution to this old problem. I have been having the same problem you guys had for months. I can watch videos fine on my browser, it is JUST the Steam client videos that are always choppy/skipping and I have found a solution that works for me.

Steam Window -> Steam button on top left -> Settings -> Interface -> Enable hardware video decoding (turn it off)

This worked for me in the client and I no longer have the issue of choppy videos including other windows within the Steam browser. Hope it works.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
