Cannot open a Cloud Saved file from Mac to PC

I've been playing Civ V on my Mac, and I now try to open one of the games on my Windows. I've saved the file over Steam Cloud but when I open the game the file is not there.
I then tried to troubleshoot by downloading the saved file down to my PC. The file name is then "MacCloudSave1". When I then try to open this file through the "Properties" -> "Local Files" -> "Browse" and then clicking the file. But it won't open and ask me which app to open the file in. I cannot choose Steam or Civ.
Can anybody help me what to do? Is it something to do with changing the file name?

most of the time mac and pc dont have same save game data , and i doubt this is any diffrent , but ask game devs, they most know this.

Not all games have cross-platform-compatible saves (and that "Mac" part in the save name hints to that one not having them). That, and I'm pretty sure the game folder isn't where the save is supposed to go, but that's game-specific. I said it twice already, now I'll say it the third time, explicitly: ask on the game forum.
