No audio from steam games
Please help!
Some of my steam games have no audio. I have tried everything. Updating my drivers, restarting, reinstalling, making sure the output is right, everything. I don't know how to fix this and it's quite annoying when you can't hear anything in a multiplayer based game.

I am having the same problem. I stream games from my desktop to my labtop and only have two games I have issues with.

The first one is Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Prophecy, which about 50% of the time I get no audio on my labtop. After rebooting, changing audio sampling setting, etc. I usually am able to stream to my labtop with audio.

The second game is Supreme Commander 2, which I have gotten audio twice.

Both my desktop and labtop are running Windows 10 64bit. Both games work fine if I play directly from my desktop.

I believe it may have something to do with steam's streaming software.
Do you have any sounds outside of your game. Like, if you play a music file or something?

If so, it may have to do with your speaker software. You can find that somewhere near your date and time.

My sound on by labtop works fine with all other games and apps. I can alt tab from SC2 and play/hear audio from say a Youtube video.
First an easy way that could fix it:

Control panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound. From there, go to the communications tab. There you will find the settings: "When Windows detects communication activity".

The following options are available:

Mute all other sounds.
Reduce the volume of other sounds by 80%
Reduce the volume of other sounds by 30%
Do Nothing.

Select do nothing, apply, ok.

or

Run the Playing audio troubleshoot - open Start > Settings > Update & security > Troubleshoot
Scroll down, select Playing audio
Click Run the troubleshooter

When complete, restart your computer then check if audio is working again.

Press Windows key + X
Click Device Manager
Expand Sound, video and game controllers

Right click your audio adapter
Click Properties
Click the Driver tab

Is there an option rollback?
If so, click it.

Also, check to make sure the audio driver is fully updated. This is often the problem when you upgrade to a new version of Windows 10. Sometimes reinstalling the latest available driver from the manufacturers website helps.

Open Start, type: change sound card
Select the Playback
Right click your Speakers
Click Set as Default Device if it isn't already

Select your speakers
Click Properties
Click the Levels tab
Use the slider to adjust level
I've already done that, except roll back the audio driver, which it's using the default Win10 driver. The labtop is a HP Envy 14 Beats edition which uses a Beats audio chip. There is no specific 64 bit audio driver for it. I've also tried running SC2 in compatibility mode, win7, with no luck. I also tried setting/running the SC2.exe to run with admin rights, but my desktop w10 warns about running it in admin, which I select go ahead an do with no change on labtop. Also looked an my audio inputs to see if it's pushing it to another channel on labtop and see no audio. It's the only game I rarely ever get to work. I've been have pretty good luck with Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Prophecy. Ever since Steam updated the client on Feb 13 I've had zero luck with SC2. The update mentioned it fixed a bug with "SteamNetworking" and another with "Remote Play: Fixed performance regression when decoding video on Windows.

I also removed/deleted the Windows10 audio driver then go online to get the most current one.

There was an update for win 10, pretty recent, that would cause a similar problem. You can restore your system to when your audio was working fine.

There could be something that creates a conflict, incorrect registry, names etc. Use a program like CCleaner to check errors and possibly repair them.
Listen to this, I loaded up about 4 older games I have to make sure their audio would work streaming to labtop, which of course they did with no problems. I went to my desktop and ran the check file integrity on SC2 (which I had done before). The integrity check gave no indication of problems. I went back to my labtop and launched a stream of SC2 from desktop and I had audio!!!!

I rebooted my labtop and tried again to stream SC2 from desktop but didn't get audio. I'll try again loading up some of those older games and try again with SC2. May I'm getting an audio codex in labtop memory that's allowing SC2 to work.
So, it is fixed now?
I loaded those old games I had opened (their audio work fine, which ALL my games work fine except for these two). After loading into each one then exiting I would try to see if SC2 had audio and it did not. I also tried Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Prophecy at the end which didn't have audio, a big kick in the teeth.

Maybe I should have done what I did before, load into all old games one at a time and at the end then tried loading SC2. I'll mess around with it in the next 24 hrs.

Thanks a lot for the help.
You are welcome, just adding, that overall, windows 10 is not very friendly to "older" games, some will miss audio, others will have BSOD even with compatibility on.

Older games will also ask you, with admin rights, to change certain configurations, installing an older DX version overwriting the latest one, older drivers etc. Be aware of that.

Ok I figured it out, it was alienware sound center. Every time it starts up, it messes with my audio. All I did was exit out of it. Thanks to everyone who helped,

Steam pushed out some distribution update. Got home, watched a few YTube videos, launched stream from desktop to labtop Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Prophecy and SC2 which both worked! (have Audio!) Now as I hit post comment wonder if it will be fixed for good!

Just tried SC2 and guess what, NO AUDIO!
I think I fixed it. Under Steam>settings then choosing remote play you can select a button called advanced host options. There is a box you can check to play audio on host. Once I selected it on my desktop I was able to launch Supreme Commander 2 on my labtop twice with audio!
