[SOLVED] Cannot Connect - "Steam is having trouble connecting with steam servers"
So I have been using steam with my computer just fine until recently. I tried to reinstall one of my games and it said it couldn't connect even though I was online and clearly had not been disconnected and steam store worked just fine. I signed out and then tried to sign back in and could not. It keeps saying "Steam is having trouble connecting to steam servers" even though I can connect and log in just fine through my browser and my phone using the mobile steam app. Here's the list of fixes that I have tried that have not worked.

- Refreshing all steam files (Deleting everything except steamapps and steam.exe) => It retreives all the files from the servers just fine but when trying to sign in still shows the error
- Switching from a WiFi to an ethernet connection
- Creating a new user and signing in through them
- Uninstalling steam completely => Interesting thing here, the uninstaller seemed to think that steam had already been uninstalled and could not uninstall it
- Reinstalling steam through the install file
- Running Steam.exe as admin
- Adding -tcp as a parameter to the shortcut and then running as admin
- Disabling all security software and any other potentially interfering programs
- Checked the firewall to make sure steam app had full access
- Running steam://flushconfig through the run prompt and the browser
- Resetting the winstock and TCP/IP stack

If anybody has any idea what could possibly be causing this/how to help I would greatly appreciate it. I don't believe it's a router issue since I can connect just fine though my browser and my phone through their app. I do not want to have to do a full system refresh just to get steam working properly.

Also, interesting note, I tried to use the "I can't connect" button which brings up the steam browser which seems (maybe?) to be connecting but then results in the same issue.

I don't even have the option to start in offline mode. All it does is allow me to retry connecting which never works.

So I figured out what the issue was. Because of the routers so called "security settings" the "medium" tier security was blocking the specific ports essential to steam working (thanks comcast, you're utter ♥♥♥♥). Because of comcast, I could not configure the ports manually, so I had to set the "security" setting down a level. Once again thanks comcast for being utter ♥♥♥♥. Hope this helps anyone else, look at the ports that steam requires and then make sure that your router isn't blocking them.

1 more vote for Comcast router. I just rearranged my network and bumped up the router security to "medium". That blocks the steam client.
