Dungeon Siege 2 low level with high level character

Hello, Im not certain that im pasting this in the correct place.
What I wondered about was that I recently began to play DS2 again, I have one in my party that is level 14 and the rest is 32. I thought this would even out eventually, but it does not. I have tried to install the hotfix mod 5f, but it comes a warning when im in game, bottom left corner in red colour, and crashes the game after a while. This might be because my game is V2.3 and the patch is for V2.2 or something, im not quite certain. Please help.
