Max. Number of Hidden Games in Library

I've had the same problem with the normal as well as with beta-client now. If I wish to hide more than half of the games currently associated with the library (steam and non-steam) some pop up as unhidden again so as if to keep the balance at an approximate 50/50 - 50% in library, 50% in hidden.
Right now I have 40 in library and 39 in hidden and there seems to be a treshold again.
Can someone post if that threshold really exists - and if yes, how to modify it? Seems like a fairly superfluous (commercial?) limitation if for real. Thanks

I don't know if the threshold exists, but you can now permanently remove games from your Steam account without needing to ask Steam support, if you no longer want them.

Thanks for responding. I'd like to keep old games in but on the background shelves, so to speak. Still to be played games up front. I mean isn't it weird that a simple sorting function has a limit - here the category 'Hidden' obviously mustn't contain more entries than the category 'Games'. ... This is like ... you may only have so many entries under 'A' as you have under 'B' ... otherwise sorting won't work.
Another 'glitch' (?) that I just came across - some games I can't launch from hidden - in offline mode - for then I receive the message - 'This game is not ready to be played offline.' - However, as soon as I unhide it, I can launch it offline from 'Games' section.

Please, Steam, this is unnecessary.

Personally, I use categories for the same thing you're wanting.

My current category list (note the letter in front is for an easy sort):

A - Actively Playing
B - Occasionally Played (these are games which I'm not necessarly actively playing, but I play every once in a while)
(B1 - Every Achievemnt Done -- this is a special category for 100%ed games)
C - Rarely Played (games I've played once and that are sort of on the backburner)
D - Never Played
E - Unreleased (preorder games)

I use hiding for "duplicate" games and games that I will likely never play for various reasons.

I don't know if the threshold exists
