Good internet but bad ping :/

So i recently got some better internet for myself and upgraded to a 10mbps down speed of internet but everytime I go onto any server in any game ex: Counter-Strike, Black Ops i always have a ping of over 100, I am on eathernet so I know it has to be something with my internet, I called my provider and they said that the internet was just fine, but if its fine why am I getting such horrible ping? Any information or tips to i guess solve this would help a lot! Thank you:')

play on servers that are close to you

Speed and ping aren't the same thing, though. Ping is how long it takes for you to contact a server and for them to respond. The further away the server is, the worse your ping will be.

Well why would a steam server set me up with a server so far away from me?

It could be the closest server that was playing the game mode you wanted, and wasn't full.

if the problem is csgo
it means ping settings are high check the settings in csgo
and if that doesn't work use matchmacking server picker
i use it sometimes cause i get the same problem
