Do I lose my cards if I make badges?

I'm with dead island cards. Will I lose them when I make the badge?

The cards will turn into a badge. So yes, your cards will be gone but you'll have the badge.

However if you get the badge to max level - level 5 by normal or level 1 by foils, the cards will be "inside" that badge, even if you won't own them in the inventory anymore.

If is not maxed, the card icons will be grayed out.

You can do it a lot cheaper with a game like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, which only has 5 cards that sell for a few cents each.

Why would someone want a max level badge or a badge at all... It's just for level up your steam level? (I'm really new in this world lol)

Its just for leveling up your steam level. Every 10 level you get a "showcase" to display screenshots, achievments, favorited games and so on on your profile. You also get more friend list slots the higher your level is.
Most people get their level high enough to display everything they want on their profile and then stop. Some just want to get as high level as possible.

If you are not interested in any of that, its pretty much pointless to level your account. Just sell the trading cards on the market.

I agree. It's too bad that you earn your achievements then basically pay to display.
