Unread Chat Message from former friend:

Good day, and thank you in advance to anyone who can help.
I went through my friendlist to remove folks I didn't recognize.
I logged back in today and my chat said there was a message from someone who wasn't a friend. Turns out I didn't recognize the name they had changed to.

I had closed steam went to work and now that I am back and realized who it was, my chat doesn't show that orange like tab stating a message from an unknown.

Is there any way to recover that unread chat!?

Idk why but opening Steam on my browser always brings up old chats from like 24 hrs ago. Btw it works on Safari but not sure about others like chrome. But I’m also not sure if you’re able to chat since you said you unfriended them. You might have to add them back to do so

No idea how to add them back. I only remember the nickname I gave them lol. Now they will forever think I was a D bag.

You can't readd people, you deleted. They will have to add you that Is the only solution.

If you deleted them, they "might" readd you if they noticed or they don't care because you deleted them and won't readd you back.

People can change their names to anything, they can even have the same name as the person your trying to delete.

Reason people do that is to in game to try get a advantage to their enemy in game by making them think they are that person.

That's why alot of people have mics just in case so we can verify who you are.


Alot of people change their names because it easier then making a new account.

I removed him because I was just confused who it was. I then realized we had a converstion as to why he did. But I didn't recall at the time.
I had that weird orange tab saying I have a message from someone I dont have as a friend. I was confused who this was.

A day later, I realized "oh its him!". But by then I had closed steam and the orange tab stating I had an un-read message from a 'stranger' was already gone.

There is nothing you can do. Unless you go to his profile and see if you can comment on something.

If you can comment, explain why you did what you did.

And maybe they'll readd you or maybe not. There is nothing else you can do.
