Account linking - what steam profile data can be shared with 3rd party game publishers?
So some Bethesda games on steam require you to link your steam account with your Bethesda account. Steam's privacy policy at: https://store.steampowered.com/privacy_agreement/
states under section 5.7:

"5.7 Valve may allow you to link your Steam User Account to an account offered by a third party. If you consent to link the accounts, Valve may collect and combine information you allowed Valve to receive from a third party with information of your Steam User Account to the degree allowed by your consent at the time. If the linking of the accounts requires the transmission of information about your person from Valve to a third party, you will be informed about it before the linking takes place and you will be given the opportunity to consent to the linking and the transmission of your information. The third party's use of your information will be subject to the third party's privacy policy, which we encourage you to review."

I would like to know which profile data (mine is set to private/friends only) are accessable to Bethesda/Zenimax or any other game publisher (Ubisoft, Epic, Rockstar etc.) when linking my accounts.

Afaik this linking process is handled through steams Web API and Open ID Authorization. What i am not sure about is whether this gives third parties like Bethesda only access to my public steam profile data, i.e. Avatar and steam name/ID, or other information like NON Bethesda games owned, playtime, friendslists etc.?

As referenced above under section 5.7: "If the linking of the accounts requires the transmission of information about your person from Valve to a third party, you will be informed about it before the linking takes place and you will be given the opportunity to consent to the linking and the transmission of your information."

So steams Web Api appanrently can transmit more data to third parties when linking accounts than what is publicly available.

I'd really appreciate a response from the devs working on the Web API and account linking feature.

External parties get public data from your Steam profile and a unique ID.

They only get your public data on your Steam profile nothing else really.

Public data would be relating to these.

- Steam ID number, it's always public to everyone, it's often use for logins on 3rd party sites, or to link accounts.

- There a permission asked with yes or no if wish to allow said 3rd party to add a game to your account this is what Sega uses for giving out free giveaways games instead of giving out codes.

The rest is basically whatever you put on your profile that can be public, or not that you set for it, such as displaying your games you own, playtime, wishlist, inventory, friends, reviews, display name, country you set on profile which doesn't matter as can be changed to anything you like, or set to no country, basically just your profile, not your private account stuff as that always private to Steam only it's not shared with any 3rd party.

When you login / link using Steam API it literally tells you what being shared. For example with 3rd party login.
