Paypal no longer a payment option in Chile - tons of players affected!
Why did you remove Paypal, Valve? It was the go-to payment method for a lot of us Chilean gamers with no credit card or with no desire to share our CC info with you.

Peru and Colombia both have several other payment methods available to them.

But for Chile, your currency change is actually hurting more people than it's helping.

After many years, non credit card holders finally had a solid, secure way of using Steam WAllet thanks to the local company Multicaja, which acted as a link between real money and Paypal. AND YOU TOOK THIS AWAY FROM US WITH NO EXPLANATION AT ALL.

So either give us back our Paypal option or provide us with a local method like our fellow South American friends have. Prepaid cards, debit card, something. Otherwise, people will go back to pirating games like in the previous decade.

P.S. Some Canadian friends tell me that they STILL get charged in USD on their credit card purchases despite seeing prices in CAD. If this happens to Chile, we're gonna get charged A LOT more than the advertised prices, cause banks do NOT use the same exchange rate Steam does.

Thank you, Valve. Your change actually hurt more than helped.

Lemme explain. Here in Chile the requirements to get an international Visa or MasterCard are ridiculous. Banks not only charge super high maintenance costs, you must also prove that you earn more than USD$700/mo since 6 months ago or more, and if you arent employed but work by yourself, you must give them documentation showing that you've been earning more than $800 since more than one year ago. That without counting the typical "you dont owe anything/aren't in debt" and "you havent asked for a money borrowing", etc. And of course, you must be over 18 years old (although that isnt a big problem).

Think about this for a country where the normal income for a family is between $500-$600 monthly.

You ruled out Paypal for us. This means that basically you're telling us "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chileans, you're too poor for us.". And actually, it feels like you really are telling us that, because, adding salt to the wound, you didn't add any kind of local payment that we could use instead like WebPay, Multicaja or Servipag, for naming some.

So yeah.
Thank you paypal, because now I'm unable to buy anything more from you. It seems like I'll have to do what some friends told me and buy in GoG, Desura and Origin instead.

Don't forget the grey market and the Humble Bundle store/GMG. It seems Steam doesn't understand how much they'll lose with this trick they played on us. I'll just assume they didn't do their research, but seriously, we NEED payment options other than just Visa! Literally the only way I had as a 19 year old student was to use my Cuenta Rut and add PayPal dollars through Multicaja and now it's simply gone! Another thing is the Steam Market. How do I know how much I'm selling an item in dollars? I need that information because if I lower the price $1 peso it may not affect the dollar, the price may stay the same, and the main currency in the Market is, of course USD. I'm not sure why Steam did this, but the market is now really confusing to use for us, and since it's international it should use one kind of currency. So this isn't only affecting steam sales, it's also affecting the community. I really don't understand why they did this, it just seems like such a bad idea.

The problem is the developers have the ability to change the price of their games depending on the currency, in this case, CLP. From what I've read, Steam uses an average income to determine the price of games, which I don't think is fair to Chilean standards, since the range of incomes is too wide in here (Poor people can be really, really poor, and rich people are really, really rich). Anyways, even though I don't think the the conversion rate is fair, it is actually beneficial for us, since it's cheaper than in the USA, but some developers (Most don't, most Steam games are now cheaper, but still some) have changed the price for their games to be more expensive, like Fallout 4.

I was going to buy Just Cause 3 and Metal Gear Phantom Pain but now I can't. GG Valve, I guess you don't want our money.
nosgoth01 19 Nov 2015 @ 3:03pm
And not all games are available for purchase. We can't buy Divinity Original Sin, Lords of the Fallen, Valiant Hearts, Castlevania games, Wolfenstein The New Order and more!
