GUIDE: Whoever has issues getting the driver for new Xbox One Wireless Controller Adapter for Windows 10
This guide is for people that can't get Win10 to automatically find the correct driver for their Wireless Adapter. Also, this guide uses certified and 100% trusted Microsoft sources so there is zero chance you'll get a virus or something else when using the download link from someone using shareonline or uploaded or whatever.

If you already followed this tutorial earlier and got the old driver installed. Just follow steps 1 to 5. Skip steps 6 and 7. Continue with step number 8.

1. Go to: catalog.update.microsoft.com (it has to be opened with Microsoft Internet Explorer)
2. Search for "Xbox Wireless" which should give you 13 results
3. a) For x64 bit systems: Download driver "Microsoft-Other hardware-Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows", Driver (Networking), Version number 20.24.34.491, file size 213 KB
b) For x86 systems: Download driver "Microsoft-Other hardware-Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows", Driver (Networking), Version number 19.53.40.791, file size 189 KB
4. Open that shopping cart thing in the top right
5. Download the driver to any folder and go there and unpack it using winzip/winrar
6. Plug in the wireless receiver and open the device manager
7. It should show the troublesome receiver as an unknown device called "XBOX ACC"
8. Right click the device, select update driver, select choose manually
9. Navigate to the folder where you unpacked the downloaded thingy
10. Install -> PROFIT
11. Controller and Wireless dongle should pair and work just fine! Audio and Vibrations included!

DISCLAIMER:
It seems like with the upcoming Windows 10 build in early November EVERY version of Win10 should be able to detect the correct driver on its own and no longer install it as an unknown device.

If I helped someone and that nice person feels sort of generous I'd be happy about a Steam gift :P

Works great on another laptop with windows 10 so the problem is that my Windows 10 installation cannot sync xbox one controllers nor xbox one s controllers neither with the slim or regular wireless adapters any more (after the latest update maybe?).

The wireless adapters also work great on Linux with xow controller. Being able to install the adapter on Linux and sync the controller easier than in Windows because you get actual feedback from the driver (not that you actually need it, it simply works) is just too much to bear.

Found the solution HERE [answers.microsoft.com], was posted 3 days ago by user AndrewH001[answers.microsoft.com]

Basically, you can have Airplane mode enabled JUST for your xbox wireless adapter. And you don't get any notification about airplane mode is enabled. Windows actually shows EVERYWHERE that airplane mode is DISABLED. But go figures, when you go into the deeper possible window with airplane mode settings.... It will show Airplane mode is enabled JUST for the xbox adapter. I was able to reproduce the steps for my computer to get stuck in this painful situation.

  1. ENABLE airplane mode
  2. unplug your Xbox wireless adapter
  3. DISABLE airplane mode
  4. Plug Xbox wireless adapter again.

And that's it... From now on the driver will tell you all is fine, lights will blink but now it will be stuck FOREVER in airplane mode disregarding how much you ENABLE/DISABLE airplane mode. It will not work again unless you find the "hidden" setting for your xbox wireless adapter airplane mode. PEOPLE IS REINSTALLING WINDOWS 10 because of this misbehavior!

Here is the solution as posted by user AndrewH001:

Had the exact same issues as everybody else i.e. uninstalling/reinstalling drivers and controller not pairing with the adapter even though the LEDS were blinking.

After reading Pyrhuss's post, even though my flight mode was off already I went to settings>>network & Internet>>flight mode, and sure enough, under wireless adapters Xbox Wireless was turned off. Turned it back on and everything works fine.

Thanks Pyrhuss, this had been driving me mad!

You must be f*cking kidding me. This is so f*cking dumb. I have been trying to fix this for half a year or so. I dumped tens of hours into this problem. I bought two controllers and two wireless adapters. Tried every driver, every trick I could find, even spoken to Microsoft support and nothing. And now, just flicked a switch and everything is working. Can't thank you enough!!!

Windows actually threw up a different error (code 43) when I tried using the driver from the Microsoft Catalog and it still wouldn't work, but after I uninstalled it from Device Manager and checked the checkbox to delete the driver files, I was finally able to get it to work by going to the Settings app, going to Update & Security, checking for updates, then viewing the optional updates and having it download the exact same driver (same version # and date, even) from there instead.

Bro thats so dumb i went to the View optional updates and the dang xbox driver was there. Why the hell would they make it optional?? probably confused a shet ton of people just because of that -_-. You actually dont need to uninstall anything, just go to the windows update>view optional updates and click on the xbox driver, install, and it will work.

I couldn't find the files referenced in the OP. They seemed to no longer be on the catalogue.

The link in the following youtube tutorial has them hosted and they worked fine when installing via device manager.

So here i am November 18 2020. Just got the new Xbox controller series x in the mail with the dongle. Dongle didn't work. I did this and can say that it does indeed work with the NEW xbox controller. THANKS EVERYONE INVOLVED!!

I did have to uninstall the first driver I'd tried, actually, the most recent one from the Microsoft Update Catalog. I tried just updating it through Windows Update but nothing changed, it still had a code 43 in Device Manager; probably because it saw that it was the same driver version and skipped it, I'm guessing. Uninstalling that driver, checking for updates again, and installing the optional driver update again ended up fixing it, though.

Okay. I'm working with Windows 20H2 (fall 2020 update) and it seems things are a bit different than the original guide.

For a 64 bit machine, go to the Windows Update page and download "Microsoft - Other hardware - Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows" with version 21.50.45.656. (I don't know what to download for 32 bit...but who's using 32 bit Windows in 2020 anyway?)

You should now be able to extract and install the adapter.

Before wasting a day searching/installing drivers for Xbone adaptor please check airplane mode in windows 10 settings and toogle "xbox wireless" on. I remember activating it for something else and now i realize that this thing prevented xbox one controller/Xbone adapter to work. Thanks @Locoxella

Hello, same problem here Win 10 20H2 with Ryzen 7 5800x. Driver was not found, tried every single driver listet here. Nothing worked. So I still have error code 48. By the way, if you have no wireless device installed there is no flight modus in Win 20H2. Can somebody help? In an other thread they were talkin about problems with new AMD CPUs.

Hey Mx_Passi, are you running Win10 20H2x64, and did you try 21.50.45.656? I have basically an identical system to you and 21.50.45.656 worked for me.

Hey, yeah I deleted the driver. Pluged the device into usb and it shows XBOX ACC without installed driver. I installed DriverVer=12/08/2015,21.50.45.656 as you mentioned and it freaks the system up. No it shows still XBOX ACC but without problem. When I try to check driver version the is no version. Can you again check your version?
