GUIDE: Whoever has issues getting the driver for new Xbox One Wireless Controller Adapter for Windows 10
This guide is for people that can't get Win10 to automatically find the correct driver for their Wireless Adapter. Also, this guide uses certified and 100% trusted Microsoft sources so there is zero chance you'll get a virus or something else when using the download link from someone using shareonline or uploaded or whatever.

If you already followed this tutorial earlier and got the old driver installed. Just follow steps 1 to 5. Skip steps 6 and 7. Continue with step number 8.

1. Go to: catalog.update.microsoft.com (it has to be opened with Microsoft Internet Explorer)
2. Search for "Xbox Wireless" which should give you 13 results
3. a) For x64 bit systems: Download driver "Microsoft-Other hardware-Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows", Driver (Networking), Version number 20.24.34.491, file size 213 KB
b) For x86 systems: Download driver "Microsoft-Other hardware-Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows", Driver (Networking), Version number 19.53.40.791, file size 189 KB
4. Open that shopping cart thing in the top right
5. Download the driver to any folder and go there and unpack it using winzip/winrar
6. Plug in the wireless receiver and open the device manager
7. It should show the troublesome receiver as an unknown device called "XBOX ACC"
8. Right click the device, select update driver, select choose manually
9. Navigate to the folder where you unpacked the downloaded thingy
10. Install -> PROFIT
11. Controller and Wireless dongle should pair and work just fine! Audio and Vibrations included!

DISCLAIMER:
It seems like with the upcoming Windows 10 build in early November EVERY version of Win10 should be able to detect the correct driver on its own and no longer install it as an unknown device.

If I helped someone and that nice person feels sort of generous I'd be happy about a Steam gift :P

Just spent 1 hour trying to figure out what the correct driver is. The driver indicated in this guide does not work as of September 2019 with windows 10 version 1903.

I used the following driver and i got it to work:

Xbox - Net - 7/11/2017 12:00:00 AM - 1.0.46.1 - Windows 10 Anniversary Update and Later Servicing Drivers,Windows 10 S and Later Servicing Drivers - 7/11/2017 - 1.0.46.1 - 217 KB

Good job to Microsoft for messing up auto driver install between a Microsoft adapter and a Microsoft operating system... :|
Guys, i really need help.
My Xbox One cotroller was connected to my PC with Xbox Wireless adapter.
But from this morning i cant connect my controller with my PC. I tried #1 post solutions and i tried all solutions i could find on internet and yt but nothing. Reinstalling device, rebooting pc, updating adapter drivers. NOTHING.

When i tried xbox wireless adapter on laptop. It worked LOL. Downloaded automaticly drivers and it synced in second.

But on my PC, controller is just blinking fast and it wont sync. WHAT should i do? I cant use usb cable in games cause it keeps disconecting.
So i dont have Xbox ACC in my device manager, so drivers look fine, but i cant sync controller anyway.

Have you read the comment above yours? that might be your solution
Nope. I tried almost all drivers and all of them are working (in device manager says drivers installed proper) but when i try to sync controller with adapter just blinking and after 20-30sec adapter turn off.
I also uncheck usb power to go to sleep.
Its really annoying especially cause on laptop working as charm (both adapter and controller).

Keep trying, finally it will start working. I've posted my solution long time ago, it was a little bit different than the OP. I can remeber only that the struggle was long and very difficult, but finally it was solved. Maybe kind of magic and little luck. I know that Microsoft didn't manage well some of their products, but don't yelling at them, it wont help.

Having the same issues as nikolapfc89.
The Adapter works fine with Windows 1809, but Windows 1903 wont let the Adapter sync with the Controller. Ive contacted the support like 20 times now and literally nobody knows, whats going on.
Ive tried manual and auto installation of the drivers, nothing will help. And probably all the of the solutions of this Guide and its 25 pages. Im quiet desperate and about to rollback to 1809...
I'm still trying. None of the aforementioned drivers are working for me. I have tried with two different computers AND two different adpaters. If anyone has a different solution I would be grateful, for now I'm stuck with cables for playing.
go into device manager and choose unknown device, then update driver, then search auto, then when list pops up pick xbox wireless controller, thats the only way i've been able to do it since windows 10 came out
The thing is, my adapter installs the correct driver. It is not being recognized as XBOX ACC, or anything. It is installed correctly as as Xbox Wireless Adapter with the driver version 10.46.1. But still, windows refuses to "start" the device. Giving me code 10 or code 48 depending on which driver version is installed and how the installation happens. Windows knows that there is a wireless adapter connected to it, it just refuses to start it properly.

I have also a recent problem with my Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows (bought in April 2019 on Amazon) on my Wind10 PC.

The Ms Elite Controler (original or Serie 2) works fine with the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows, the driver is automaticaly updated and its ok, no problem at all in games since april 2019

But recently the problem arrives when I tried to connect a microheadset (classic headphones with a mike) on the controler WHEN the controler is linked to the PC via the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.

The controler and the microheadset starts to work fine (voice on the mike and sound on the headphones), but after 3 minutes (around exactly 3mn 30sec) the PC crash ( with a BSoD classic memory error violation) and reboots !

This occurs :
- only WHEN a microheadphones (microcasque in french) is connected directly to the controler AND WHEN the controler is linked to the PC via the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.

(The crash occurs even when I do nothing else with the PC, just starts the controler with the microhedphones connected to the Elite controler, on the Windows desktop for instance).

If there NO microheadphones connected to the Elite controler (when the controler is linked to the pc via the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows), the controler works fine and the pc also, with absolutly no crash during many hours.

If I do not use the Wireless Adapter for Windows, and that I connect directly the Elite Controler via a USB cable to the PC, I can plug the headphones on the Elite Controler and the PC never crash !

So the problem is only (after 3mn) when the Wireless Adapter for Windows is used for the Elite Controler, and when the headphones is pluged/connected on the Elite Controler.

Of course, I have tried different headsets/headphones (different models, from Xbox microheadset, to PS ones, to classic telephone/iPhone ones, and so on...) : same problem !

Of course, I have also tried with different Controlers, Elite (first or Serie 2 models) : same problem !

The Accesory Xbos app on Windows 10 runs ok, and see the Elite controler with no problem, even when it is used coonected via the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.

(I have also updated the Elite controler with its accesories conected on it, (it means 1) the stereo headset adapter, 2) the microheadphones), as it is said on the Ms support page for installing newfirmware on the Elite controler : the accessories need to be plugged on the controler when you upgrade the controler firmware.
And the app have seen that the microheadset and adapter are connected on it.
And of course the firmware is successfully installed, and ok today, no new version)

I have contacted also Ms Windows support, and Xbox support : they even tried to send back the problem to Xbox support (because it is called an "Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows"), and of course the Xbox support said non, it is an "Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows" and it is used on a Windows 10 PC so, it is a Windows support problem to deal with.

I have been more than 3 hours today again with the Windows support, and they can't find a solution to my problem : they say that the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows is correctly installed, the driver is ok, Windows10 see the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows, and says that there is no problem in the configuration.

And do not understand why the PC is crashing when the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows is used only with an headset plugged on/in the Elite controler.

The Windows support said that it is a problem of incompatibility with the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows and my PC !
Why ?
with which part of my PC ?
They did not known (after of course having inspected my pc online, they said everything is fine).

So I can't used my Elite controler with an headset on it when it is connected to my PC via the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.

Not very good at all...
Any ideas ?

I suggest you, if you have another machine (Laptop, Desktop PC) running Windows 10 - use your controller there. If there is no problem in the other machine - check windows version difference.
Also you can check Event Viewer in Windows 10 (Administrative tools) - there are a lot of logs, maybe there is some info about the problem that Microsoft support could help.

I reinstalled Windows 10 lately and I hadn't been able to get the XBox One controller with the wireless dongle to sync. The controller would blink until it connected, then the XBox button light would shut off. I tried installing the older drivers as mentioned in this post, but Windows 10 would never actually install them since it said newer drivers were already installed.

I kept trying and trying until I held down the "sync" button on the top of the controller while it was trying to sync. Then I pressed the XBox button and for whatever reason, it successfully synced.

Maybe this standard procedure on an actual XBox, but I only have a PC so I haven't ever used it with an actual console. I hope this helps someone, especially if you're like me and have only ever used it with a PC!
