Youtube video's cause freeze in steam client
Whenever I try to view a youtube video in steam, like in community hub for a game or something, steam freezes. I can access my library, but nothing internet related, like community, store or profile.
All I see is the page with a youtube window, all black and a loading icon in top right.
This started a few days ago, and while it doesn't do it every time, it is most times. And when it happens I have to restart steam to get it working again

Edit:

Things such as Deleting cookies in client browser options, using task manager to close steamwebhelper.exe and of course the old standard "use a web browser not the client" have all been put forward throughout this thread, to limited success.

Deleting cookies will work until steam is restarted.

Stopping the steamwebhelper process will close the frozen window and so is a good workaround that stops you from having to restart steam each time it happens.

Using a web browser instead of steam client is of course a way of playing youtube video's, but that's not really the point. The point is that it should work in the client, and it DID work in the client.

People have mentioned deleting and/or reinstalling adobe flash, switching to/from NPAPI/PPAPI, but I haven't had any success with that, and don't know anyone else who has either.

I'm on W7 - AMD R9 270 - AMD FX-8350.

Steam has just given me this recommendation: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3134-TIAL-4638

I completed their steps, though I needed to completely power down at step #4 as Steam was not working when I only did a reset.

I have just browsed a few titles on the Steam Store and no issues yet. However this has seemed to be random and may even be an interaction with some other non-Steam process. I'll report back with extended results.

Thanks for the flushconfig command, but iirc this thread is about freezing the forums by trying to play an embedded youtube video, not about store pages.

Anyone with some positive feedback?

Did using that command supposedly reseting steam settings or "refreshing steam files" as they put it actually solved somebody's problem with youtube videos causing freezing forums?

To clarify, this has happened to me on Store pages, Forums, AND Greenlight items. Friggin everywhere in the Steam client except for my Library.

dont forget the steam overlay when you are alt tabbed in game. this needs to be fixed so i can watch videos while waiting for my next match to appear in usf4 or rocket league or any other game so i dont have to alt tab over and over to see if i got in a game.
This has also started to happen to me when viewing streaming on steam via the community hub.
I tried 4 or 5 different times today and couldn't get that to work at all. Whole steam window freeze as before, had to use task manager to close steamwebhelper to get it working again.
I have no idea what this is all about but it's clear that they aren't bothered about fixing it
:angry_creep: happened again... this is after following Steam's recommended fix.

I had Space Engineers selected in my Library. I saw "Monocycle v.1" in the Workshop highlights and had to check it out :gordon:

I only got 2 dots of the YouTube animation before it froze up.
:conwayfacepalm:

Should not matter too much, but also running at the time:
Chrome
MEGA service
Logitech Gaming Software
Logitech Profiler
AI Suite II
"Get Windows 10" lol

Hmm, logitech profiler?
I'm running that as well.
I wonder if this could be something to do with it? It shouldn't be, but you never know with PC's

i dont use that software and the video player plugin in the client's web browser still freezes intermittently. Its an issue with valve's terrible iteration of Chromium.
Install flashplayer via Internet Explorer. I doesnt use Chrome i think. I hope valve just makes it so that it will use our default browster. (u can set this in Control Panel)

I have the same problem as others and it does appear to be an issue if you use any sort of logitech software., I have the Performance MX mouse and use the setpoint software, earlier all youtube videos in the steam client would freeze, so i exited setpoint rebooted steam and boom vidoes play fine now.

I have 0 logitech software and hardware. You fixed your videos by restarting steam.
Can't believe this damn thing got back....seriously Valve stop screwing with Steam client so bad.
Went back to normal at the end of November of 2015 till begin fo Jan.this year.
Now we basically have 2 scenarios depending on your preferences:

A. People taking care of various steam client bugs are really incompetent/over(under)paid so they literally can't even be bothered to lift a finger to address those problems.

B. It's an intentional attempt to make people login from various other browsers.
yep its been doing this for some time now like 8 months now it's getting really annoying now

I got the same problem for months already. I've been looking around quite a lot and finally found this thread (via Google search, then searched for it here). I knew that at least some other had to be affected as well, cause I couldn't image that I'm the only one.

I really can't believe this still hasn't been fixed. My impression is that it's not related to Adobe's Flash Player, because Youtube uses that damn HTML5 player now and Youtube videos on Steam do exactly show the same frontend (as oppsed to shop videos, which still use Flash).

To me it makes sense that the problem arose when Google changed the Youtube player.
same issue here :/ happening for months.
