Youtube video's cause freeze in steam client
Whenever I try to view a youtube video in steam, like in community hub for a game or something, steam freezes. I can access my library, but nothing internet related, like community, store or profile.
All I see is the page with a youtube window, all black and a loading icon in top right.
This started a few days ago, and while it doesn't do it every time, it is most times. And when it happens I have to restart steam to get it working again

Edit:

Things such as Deleting cookies in client browser options, using task manager to close steamwebhelper.exe and of course the old standard "use a web browser not the client" have all been put forward throughout this thread, to limited success.

Deleting cookies will work until steam is restarted.

Stopping the steamwebhelper process will close the frozen window and so is a good workaround that stops you from having to restart steam each time it happens.

Using a web browser instead of steam client is of course a way of playing youtube video's, but that's not really the point. The point is that it should work in the client, and it DID work in the client.

People have mentioned deleting and/or reinstalling adobe flash, switching to/from NPAPI/PPAPI, but I haven't had any success with that, and don't know anyone else who has either.

I've been getting this occasionally as well.

2 Questions then:

1 - Did you hear of any way to deal with it, or at least find out why it suddenly started happening?

2 - I see you're playing warhammer vermintide..... is it worth the money? I hear there are 13 maps only, and they are very short, each taking less than 20 minutes. How is it, value for money wise?

Thanks in advance

Can't answer your first question. Your thread popped up while I was searching for people with the same issue. Decided to give it a good ol' bump.

As for Vermintide, yeah I'd say it's worth it. There are 13 maps. 6 of them are 'campaign' maps that can take roughly 30-45 minutes to finish depending on the people you're playing with and how well you're doing. The rest are considered side missions that can be finished fairly quickly.
Ok thanks for the quick response.
As long as we back and forth it keeps the thread bumped, maybe someone will spot it who has an answer for us regarding the youtube nonsense

:)
Yep. I got this issue as well.
Got the problem 2. If i try to play a Community Youtuve video the whole steam broser sort of freezes, but there is still a loading sign in the top right. Nothing helps but to restart Steam. After that, the issue is still there. So i cant watch any YT videos in COMMUNITY.

I found that restarting steam usually gets it working again, but then after a while I will go and try to watch a community video, or any youtube linked video actually, and it will freeze again.
I can still access my library, but any other tab will bring up the same black page with the black youtube window in it, stuck and not responding.
But yes, a little loading icon in the corner, like it's trying to load or connect or something. But I have left it for an hour and nothing happens.
You can even rightclick and stop the loading. But this is no fix, and is stayes freezed on the same YT video.

I also deleted all files in the html cashe folder's. No fix.

Same here. Youtube is updating his code so it might be related. Or maybe a flash compatibility issue. :/
I'm encountering same issue since October 31.But before that day even with Steam client have been so slow navigating through community pages or the rollout and other stuff for months I wasn't getting this issue. These syntoms must be the sign of Steam ending.

P.S. using Steam overlay sometimes youtube videos and audio will stop playing but it doesn't stop me from closing the window and opening another but inside Steam client force me to log off and log back.:sad_creep:

I uninstalled Adobe Flash Player 19 NPAPI and that solved the problem for me. I think it might have something to do with me using Chrome which doesn´t support NPAPI-plugins anymore.

I've been having this problem as well. Steams browser has never been very good for loading videos, which would be fine if they provided a command to load video directly to your default browser.
Bump...
only fix i've found is to force quit the program, or il will load the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ video forever...

Only noticed this recently and it's damn annoying, I can't open any Community page that contains a video because it autoplays and locks up my client, forcing me to close it. I also can't look at any Greenlight page because nearly every one has a trailer that autoplays.

Really hope this gets fixed soon...

I have exactly the same problem as OP, really annoying issue which I hope is going to get resolved quickly.
Edit: There are other threads here about this particular issue as apparently it affects more and more people.
