Steam asking me to log in, whilst already logged in
So this is getting pretty weird. Whenever I try to post a new discussion or go on the workshop steam asks me to log in again (whilst logged into my account with the steam client) and so I do log in as it asks, but then it thinks I'm logging in from a new computer/browser so I enter the special code and after all that is done I get the error message telling me that it failed to validate my account details.

I tried going on the website on google chrome to try it and this happened again several times. This is the first I've got it to work on a regular browser however it's still not working on the steam client.

I've been searching around about this but haven't found anything useful. Anyone got a fix for this?

The only way to fix this as i just did this and it fixed my steam. You have to log into steam thru your web browser i.e. firefox, internet explorer or chrome or what ever web browser you use. The web browser has to be upto date. You then have to stay logged in steam on the web browser to make the steam client work properly. If you sign out of steam in the web browser then the steam client will start acting up. I just tested this and it works. You should not have to do this as you didn't have to before. But it does work if you log into steam in your web browser.

I've tried as you've suggested but unfortunately it's still not working on the client. I re -logged in a few times that hasn't worked either :/

Weird it worked for me as i'm typing this in the steam client now. I know when i logged out of steam in firefox my steam client started acting weird again. Maybe just a coincidence.

Okay guys things are working again. I actually don't know how it was fixed but I'll let you all know what I did just before it started working:
-I restarted my PC then restarted steam
-I disabled automatically detect proxy in my internet settings
-I set steam to not limit bandwidth

Only the first thing there in the list was in my attempt to sort this out but I have no idea what it was I done to sort it. Most probably the resrarting my PC done it.

it worked for me as well, I have steam loged in on chrome, and the client seems to not be asking me to login inside of it anymore ( the recomendations appear, can access community, etc.)

I contacted Steam Support about this yesterday, apparently they are doing some heavy maintenance. I was told to just wait it out.

I had to disable my firewall to get it working, but now I dont feel safe. Doesnt windows 8 already come with a good firewall?
