Steam client not allowing access to taskbar without first accessing desktop
Win7, had this problem for many months if not over a year or more. If I run the Steam client full screen I can't move my mouse to the bottom of the screen and cause my taskbar to come up (I hide it). If I change it to windowed and it's taking up the full screen I can see a pixel or two strip of the taskbar and other programs' taskbar buttons but it still won't access it without clicking first. No other program I run has this behavior.

Any ideas on why this occurs?

Does not happen on my Win7 laptop, steam is always fullscreen and used Steam on Win7 since 2010

It didn't do it early on when I first had Win7 iirc. Was much later I think. I found a post where someone with Win10 was having the same issue. Curious if it's a rare issue or more widespread. If it's rare it's probably just something with my computer. I'm not bored enough to do a fresh OS install to find out :P

Bumping for visibility. This has been happening since 2010 and Valve refuses to notice it or fix it. http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1599784

Geez...pathetic. It's rather annoying to say the least. People have been asking for them to allow resizing of text for years as well especially with 1440 monitors, which I also have, and my eyesight isn't what it used to be so Steam on that monitor sucks hairy donkey balls.

Valve is rarely in a rush to fix anything that isn't hurting profits. It's 2015, no excuse for either of these problems to still be in existence. :shifty:

Bumping this old issue because it's still a problem

What exactly is the problem? When running fullscreen apps, be it Steam or games, the taskbar is hidden for good. That's exactly the point! Imagine playing Civilization and having the taskbar pop up every time you're trying to click something on the bottom of the screen! A full screen app takes THE FULL SCREEN, that's by design. Either don't run Steam in fullscreen or alttab out.

When you maximize the Steam client to full screen (just like ANY other program be it a word processor, internet browser, a PDF viewer, whatever) there is accessibility issue to your taskbar. Any of the aforementioned programs, when maximized (just like the Steam client), allow you access to your taskbar. We are NOT talking about Big Picture mode or we would have said "Big Picture mode".

I haven't had this issue in a while but it was an issue for me when I posted this and apparently is still an issue for others. Who also had no problem understanding what this post was about and how the client's particular behavior is not like other programs.

So, what was it, and what did you do to fix it? That would have been a lot more helpful than admonishing someone else about "not understanding".

"Maximized" and "fullscreen" are two distinct terms with two distinct meanings. Pick the right one, say what you mean!

To fix this, top left corner hit view, select small mode, then do it again and select large mode.
This fixed the issue for me and now my Taskbar shows up and I can resize the steam app from the bottom of the page now also. Some sort of bug, not sure why it works but it does.

Thanks, I haven't had the issue in quite some time but I'll keep this in mind! :sheriffsbadge:

ReBoot, just seeing this after 3 years haha, did you learn to stop being unnecessarily pedantic in the meantime? Nobody cared. In this instance it didn't matter. Steam doesn't have a fullscreen for the regular client on desktop, you have to load a different client, it's called Big Picture Mode, not the same thing. If I had a problem with BPM I'd have said BPM, but I said that already. Three years ago lol :steamfacepalm:

rjenkins, like I'd report back to someone who thought that was "admonishing"? :sm: "You were mean, did you fix it?" LOLZ.

I'm out, this problem has been resolved, thanks for digging this up and responding Jakle, apprecaited.

Except it's still the same client which is loaded, namely Steam.exe. Full screen on the other hand is very different from a maximized window on a technical level (which is the right level for solving technical issues). You're calling different things same and same things different.
