Problem-Invalid Access to memory location

I have a problem where if I try to open any game from Steam, it will pop up with a message:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\SteamService.exe
Invalid access to memory location

If I press OK I get:
Failed to start game (unknown error)

If I go into a game file (such a CS:GO) and run the .exe file I can play the game, however, I will not be able to play on VAC secured servers

Is there a way to fix this? Preferably without having to Download/Uninstall thing etc.

sadly the program files folder is not writable in some windows setups which causes errors like this. you might be able to get away with moving the folder but the easier option is to remove the protection from the folder. this varies with the windows version though so i cant give more details than that without knowing more.

the windows version would let me grab a general link for you, or you could skip the "me googling it for you step" and pop your windows version and "can't write to program files" heh

I have windows 8.1, but I don't really understand anything I get when I search "Winds 8.1 can't write to program files" (or see how it is useful)

Ug ok so windows 8 is a mess

there are 2 ways to fix this. One is to unhide and operate from the admin account from now on (difficult to do, pain in the ass and not a good solution)

The other is to "move" steam to a new folder, this is simpler so I'll detail it here.

From the steam drop down on the top left, run the backup and restore option to backup your games and saves.
uninstal steam
reinstal steam to a new folder, suggested C:/Steam
run the backup and restore option again to get your games back.
