View Profile in Browser
As you can see from this link, it is possible to view a users profile - http://steamcommunity.com/id/karliboe/games/

It seems this is his steam ID, yet when I enter my steam id (tomg5232) it throws an error back stating "the specified profile cannot be found".

Any idea what gives?

If you go to your profile and click edit profile check if you have a custom URL if you don't, set one and it should redirect to your profile on the web browser when you type the url.
