Mic not working *SOLVED*
The problem started earlier today while playing CS:GO. Players in-game could not hear me.
I tested my mic in Steam's voice settings, and received no indication that it was working (no sound bars or voice relay)

I then tried the following:
-Setting my mic to the default sound device
-Testing my mic in the Windows sound window
-reinstalling all audio drivers in task manager
-Testing my mic in other programs (Audacity, Teamspeak, Skype)
-Testing my mic in steam on a spare laptop, which worked fine
-Stopping my firewall and real time scanning processes(McAfee)
-Testing another microphone plugged into the back of my PC
-testing a relay voice command in CS:GO
-Setting my mic to non-exclusive mode in its properties
-and finally removing my games from the steam folder and reinstalling steam

As for virus checking, I scanned a few days ago with no results but I am rescanning currently

The problem seems to be that the steam voice plugin isn't initializing with the sound input driver or at least isn't hooking right as the Sound Boost option is disabled for both mics despite one having sound boost available in its properties. I know their are workarounds for each specific game, but I'd much rather get steam to use its higher quality codecs and not have to mess with it.

Any help and support is much appreciated

Edit: Solved! I figured it out, another application was conflicting with steam. Probably some audio application. If any of you are having a similar problem, end processes in task manager until your mic begins working again. Thanks for all the offers for help!

You might need to get a new laptop/desktop coz there might be a error happening with steam
SUGGESTIONS
---------------------------------
Turn off anti-viruses (might be blocking some inportant stuff for the mic) might sound stupid
Delete steam and reinstall steam there could be some errors within your steam so just redownload it

Hope That Helped

I can't really help, just wanted to bump this and mention I've got the same issue. Steam as a whole does not get the audio input from my mic, all other applications do.

I did the following attempting to fix it:

- Changed default input device
- Deactivated all other audio devices
- Close all other apps that might interfere
- Uninstalled and reinstall audio drivers (Realtek)
- Used a different input method (Voicechanger)

I have a feeling this might be a recently introduced bug in Steam, a friend of mine has the same issue, too. Hope we find a solution soon.

Is there a reason why you don't want to read the already present solution?

Because his issue is different from ours, which makes his comment in here a little useless.

For a different reason than us. He gets an error message about DirectSound, ours was caused by GeForce Experience interfering with the audio input in Steam. It's like comparing a guy driving off a bridge and another guy's car being rear-ended because "they are both essentially the same".

Do you know that you don't get this message? Have you checked your console?
