SUGGESTIONS
---------------------------------
Turn off anti-viruses (might be blocking some inportant stuff for the mic) might sound stupid
Delete steam and reinstall steam there could be some errors within your steam so just redownload it
Hope That Helped
I did the following attempting to fix it:
- Changed default input device
- Deactivated all other audio devices
- Close all other apps that might interfere
- Uninstalled and reinstall audio drivers (Realtek)
- Used a different input method (Voicechanger)
I have a feeling this might be a recently introduced bug in Steam, a friend of mine has the same issue, too. Hope we find a solution soon.

Thanks anyways!
For a different reason than us. He gets an error message about DirectSound, ours was caused by GeForce Experience interfering with the audio input in Steam. It's like comparing a guy driving off a bridge and another guy's car being rear-ended because "they are both essentially the same".
