Bought a new laptop with windows 10 pre-installed and all my games lag, I need help.
I bought an HP envy the AMD FX series and am relatively new to steam. I've purchased a few games Borderlands, Tombraider, Age of Empires, and ARC but all of the games lag. I've tried to fix it but honestly don't know enough about steam or PC gaming to fix it. The solutions I've tried have come from the steam forums but havent worked at all. if anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it.

Laptop Specs:

CPU: AMD FX-8800P
GPU: AMD Radeon R7
RAM: 6GB
HDD

r7 is not the gpu model. the gpu model would be say r7 250 for example.

edit, also the r7 M250 is VERY weak. turn down the settings to low-medium on 720p.

are there any stickers on the laptop? download speccy and that should tell you the exact model.\

1. reinstall visual c++ 2008 redistributable (VC_RED.msi). this should be located in your hdd partition.
2. reinstall dirrectx 9.0c from microsoft or filehippo.
3. reinstall amd r7 mobile driver for windows 10 64bit and reboot computer. get it from amd website.

Thanks, I'll try it.
OP, without knowing your specs, we cannot help you. No amount of downloading will ever help if your hardware is not up to snuff. If you don't know your own hardware, how did you check if you met the system requirements for said games?

After looking over the post and replies... I think you have a computer that does not met the requirements, pushing settings further than your system can handle, and/or you are expecting better performance out of low end hardware.

All of your hardware is listed in System Information... go to "Run" and enter msinfo32. Everything is there. Your processor, OS, and RAM is under System Summary, which is what is first shown by default. Your GPU is under Components < Display.

That should be pretty straight forward, but just in case... you can download CPU-Z or GPU-Z, get a validation link and post it.

post a cpuz validation link
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
cpuz -> validate button -> submit button
it will open a browser, copy the url (address) and paste it here

congrats on buying an amd laptop

avoid those at all costs for gaming

return it and get an i7 mq/hq/qm with a gtx x60+ gpu for gaming

I know my Laptop isn't the best, I can't afford a high end laptop. $600 was my limit so I shopped around and picked something that I thought was decent enough to run new games. I don't mind running the games on a low setting, I don't mind 30 fps I just don't understand why every game lags and stutters. Especially AoE, I should be able to run that without it lagging.

I hope I'm not breaking any forum rules but here is the Laptop I bought from bestbuy.

If it's lagging on Age of Empires then there's definitely something not right there.

Also the GPU is just called "R7" on that particular APU.

The problem is that you don't have the right kind of computer for gaming. You are expecting performance that is past the capabilities of your hardware. You should have just built a desktop for the same price and you could be playing in fullHD with good frame rates. You have a laptop that is not designed for gaming.

This goes for you too, Canti. The laptop you have is not designed for gaming and is not able to perform like you wish.

Yes, there is a type of GPU on-die called "R7". And it sucks. Get a laptop with a dedicated GPU, or build a tower. Trust me, well worth the money
