His level 0 would have indicated that such "free redeems" don't work to begin with.

Depends, maybe the account was already hijacked and is later given back to the real owner.

I was under the impression that nothing would happen..Good to know
So if the account was not hijacked, those folks can go about their buisness and continue to try scamming other users?? That is not good to know
