How you get a Duplicate CD key problem resolved ?
I purchased a game from Wal-mart (Thought it was a stand alone game but was wrong ) had to install Steam on my PC to install the game then I get the Duplicate CD Key error, spent a day figgering out how to e-mail Steam support and the game manfacture. Have sent e-mails to both and no responce. Does anyone know how to get a new CD key from Steam or Dovetail Games.

Take it back to your retailer. Get refund if poissible. It;'s not an uncommon thing for store employees to open packaging and copy down cd keys

Then you are hosed my friend. Steam won't issue a new key because it is a storebought game. and thepublisher likely won't because they have no way of knowing if you're geniuine or not.

This crap really sucks, because when you get the error for a duplicate cd key it gives you a link to have a e-mail sent to the person that used that key, SO Steam knows who is using the stolen key and they should follow up on it and shut off that persons account and help the person who got burned get a new key.
You have a bill and a physical key.
So the store has to give you a refund, and steam has to check if the key was used before that date.

Quite simple.

And how does Steam know which one of you is the genuine owner. he could likely provide as much info as you could.

Wal-mart policy is no refund nor exchanges if the game is opened and you have to open the game to install it. SO STEAM SHOULD FIX THIS

As far as I know Wal-Mart does not sell stolen items.

Whoever bought the game after it was activated has to get the money back from the shop.
Or the developer has to fix it.
