Virus Scammed - Is there any way to get items back?

Recently, my brother was stupid enough to download a virus and got his account hacked and lost over $150 worth of items. Before I contact steam support which I know can take over a week, I'm wondering if they could even help us retrieve the items back? I know they can retrieve the account, but I'm worried that I've just lost the $150..
Please help... thanks :(

And if you're wondering, the items are no longer in his inventory, so a trade ban won't help..

If the items were hacked from your Steam Account Without your consent, then yes you can get your items back by contacting Steam Support. Make sure you provide all needed evidence like screenshots of his trade history, proof of ownership, and so on.

After that you'll need to wait for a response. You can contact Steam Support {LINK REMOVED}

He should scan his computer too if he hasn't already, as if he has not scanned and cleaned out the virus, it is likely still there. I recommend using these personally:

AVG-Anti virus.[www.googleadservices.com]
{LINK REMOVED}CCleaner.
Or Malwarebytes.[www.googleadservices.com]

All of which are free by the way, so no worries about that.
