Backing Up Steam Games
I was just wondering if when I back up Steam and all does it back up literally everything you have installed? Or is it just the Save files? I am okay with having to download and reinstall games, I just don't want to lose save game files.

Thanks

The Steam Backup function ONLY backups the game data files. Meaning, the game gets compressed back to its preinstall state and you can save this backup on an external HDD or burn it to a DVD/BluRay. Later you can reinstall the game from those files so that you dont need to download it again.
It does NOT backup your save files. Those are most of the time located in the "my documents" folder on your pc (can vary depending on the game).

As long as those files get not deleted ( or you make an manual backup of them), if you reinstall a game from the backup files it should recognize all the save files.

Damn, I am reformating and reinstalling my horrilble Vista on my old old ass PC, maybe I can extend it a little longer. I have some older retro games that don't have Cloud Sync and such...so now I just need to be sure to find ALL those files. Ugh...

I haven't changed directory paths, so would they likely all be in My Documents are any actually saved in the whole steamapps folders?

Most third party saves are stored in My Documents.
This works well for backing up all your game saves, even to a cloud of your choice.

Some reason this...isn't working all it pulls is Window Live Profile and Tomb Raider...nothing else at all. Ugh, I guess just copying the whole Documents Folder might be my only option...
