Steam pages of the client went dark
Is this happening to anyone else? I got that client update today (October 7th), the one asking you to add a phone number for security, and all the content pages went black except for the Library tab. I still see the brownish user interface with the menus and tabs, but the rest is blank. I restarted completely several times, I even went so far as to do a fresh reinstall of the client (by deleting everything except Steam.exe and the Steamapps folder) and still the same problem. The Steam website still seems fine though. It's how I'm posting this. :teardrops:

Hi guys I had the same issue (black screens except for library, big picture working normal etc) In my case the issue was FW (online armor free edition). After reading this post I've realized that since last steam client update the program steamwebhelpe.exe was flagged as untrusted. I've changed it to trusted and it solve the problem. Hope this help.

Thank you! I added permissions to my antivirus and I also set it to run off an earlier service pack.

For those who still have this problem, steamwebhelper.exe is the culprit, located in Steam\bin
I've not been on steam for a week or so. But have just logged on again and have this problem. I have added exceptions to Windows Firewall, and even turned it off for a while. Tried virus programs too. Not sure what is wrong. Looking through the post I can see that I am only running one Steam Client WebHelper.

I'm not very technical. But has anyone fixed this issue yet?
I Have Kaspersky AntiVirus, and even by adding special rules for skip any blocks on steamwebhelper.exe ... It no works better!

By the way...

I have always steamwebhelper.exe exactly three times...
No one is killed or blocked.. (even before my rules added!)

So it's not that for me :/

Thanks aswell.
I do not think it's the Windows firewall that's the problem, because I tested it and the Steam client worked. I did not have any exceptions that I know of. What I would do is uninstall your third-party (not Microsoft) antivirus and/or firewall and try another free one. For me, Avira, Avast and AVG didn't block the Steam pages. My problem was with BitDefender. Just disabling it didn't work, I had to uninstall it. Good luck.

If anyone is still out of luck and you are using Bitdefender antivirus, then disable Active Threat Control and re-launch Steam. Then you can turn Active Threat Control back on again.

Active Threat Control is one of the Antivirus options.

Currently, I have to do this each time I launch Steam.

It ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ worked, good sir! Thank you so much. Holy jesus it was a pain in the ass having to acess the market and my profile everytime on google chrome.
Working Fine for me now
I still have this problems... i had AVG free edition and i change for avast free edtion (i never had bitDefender). I reinstall steam 3 times, i flush the config... but nothing works.

I tried to add the folder /bin in avast's exclusion but it doesn't work.
I have only one steamwebhelper.exe in the processes
Salamandar, have you tried just excluding steamwebhelper.exe or trying another free antivirus? I would completely uinstall AVG and Avast before doing so. Perhaps you have two anti-viruses conflicting with each other. Good luck.
Yes, i tried... i uninstall avast + desactivate the windows firewall and then, re install steam (2 times in different folders) but it didn't work...
So with no antivirus and no firewall, i don't know why i still have this problem...
i have the same problem, i have avira and i have setup windows firewall to let steamwebhelper run. Please help as i am real frustrated as to why this dont work

Regards!
edit, wrong forum :s (du'h)..

As regards to 'steam pages going dark' (all except 'library') -this error occured before to me, went away and came back up again... now viewing YouTube from the Steam -client, freezes it and makes me need to restart steam to make it functional again... In the game in game browser clips work normally.... so it's not OS's/(AV/FW)software fault IMHO but is not a biggy, personally... Just a tad worriesome (loss of functionality).

Try this, it work for me :
Press Win+R to access Windows Run. Type %appdata%

This will take you to AppData/Roaming. Go up a directory, to AppData, and then find the Local folder. When you are in AppData/Local, find the Steam folder and delete the htmlcache folder.

In my case, CCleaner corrupted the htmlcache.
Still having this problem today, started around a week ago, i'm guessing the last update. Tried a multitude of fixes to no avail, i guess i'll just wait for the next update and hope it gets fixed.
i had the same problem until i made a guest account on my pc, I now switch to guest account when i want to use steam and it works like a charm .. Try it, it does really work
Finally fixed after UNINSTALL Bitdefender, INACTIVATE WONT SOLVE the issue.
THANKS A LOT!
