https://www.speedtest.net/ by default shows your speed in megabits per second.
What do you get on https://fast.com/ ? Also confirm what your steam download settings are set to display speed in, bytes or bits?
i was pretty specific. capital MB stands for megabyte, lower case mb for megabits. my dl speed on the test is 50MB/s and i'm only downloading at 10MB/s. no dl caps on steam, and i've tried several dl regions. same internet i was using a month ago getting 100MB/s during certain hours, but never less than 50MB/s. i have gigabit internet.
I tried downloading TF2 just now and i got peak 27 MB/s down and that's real close to full speed for me.
Try downloading something else and see if it is faster, something popular or anything really.
You could try stuff like booting into safe mode with networking just to test if it makes any difference, also if you got another PC like a laptop you could try that and see if it changes things.
i've got a bit of a money problem in that i keep spending it on games lol i've downloaded probably 20 different titles of the last month and a half. my default region is chicago as that's the closest to me, but i tried several US regions. games include: trover saves the universe, divinity original sin 2, skyrim se, grip combat racing, project cars 2, rocket league, age of wonders planetfall, boneworks, half life (original, 2, 2:e1, 2:e2, and alyx), halo mcc, no man's sky, person 4, tabletop sim, and more. i downloaded rdr2 on the r* launcher and it was going at 50MB/s. i'm really at a loss.
i've tried all the 'conventional' troubleshooting. it's not that big of a deal. i mean, 10MB/s isn't like slow or anything. i was just puzzled as to why it's slower on steam than everywhere else. this forum post is actually my last attempt at a solution before i give up.
