Store videos (game trailers) not playing
Good day.

Not sure exactly when this started as a problem, but I discovered it only recently (AFAIK it was working at least a month ago; no changes in hardware in that time).

Using the Steam client, when I open the store page for a particular product, the video will not play. No audio, no video. It will briefly show the splash screen in low res, with a video length of 0:00/0:00. Then it will go black. The static images (beside the video) show.

Using Chrome, when I open the store page for a particular product, there are no problems.

It doesn't matter what game it is, the videos are not showing in the Steam client.

I have updated my video drivers.
I have turned off Steam > Settings > Interface > Enable smooth scrolling / Enable GPU accelerated rendering / Enable hardware video decoding
I have deleted the Steam/appcache
I have cleared the Steam download cache (Steam > Settings > Downloads > Clear Download Cache)
I have checked for Steam updates (Steam > Check for Steam Client Updates) (none)
I have checked for Windows updates (none)
I have downloaded a new version of Steam and installed it over the existing install
I have deleted the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam folder and reinstalled it
I have restarted my computer after each of the major steps (like updating drivers, deleting caches, etc.)

And yet the problem persists.

Videos in the Community tab play alright (steamcommunity.com) through the Steam client.
I have plenty of space left on my hard drives (including C:) (several GB's at least)

Any assistance would be appreciated.

To Fix
go to Steam at top of screen next to View
then Settings
then Inter Face
Then Client Beta
do Steam Beta Update
That should fix

Had the same issue, fix was simple. Did the steps from Alitari posted from Statmanx. All good, 20 second fix.
I’m having the same issue here. Checked for updates on the Steam Desktop Client and no change.
Was curious if this is for the client or google chrome. Since I can't seem to see the videos on chrome
Having this problem on chrome only, firefox and steam client work fine. Tried turning off all extensions, no change.
I have the same issue.
It is very odd, because if you right click on a video on Steam, then press "copy the adress", then you go on Google, right click then paste the adress, press enter, then take the first choice, so you can go to the same video but not from your Steam client, and then it works fine.
So the issue is coming from our Steam client, something went wrong but it has nothing to do with a video issue.
Ok problem solved exactly like you said
For those who wouldn't know how to do go to Steam (top left of your screen), then Settings, then Interface, then allow Steam beta updates, then restart Steam.
But sometimes the problem still occurs, and after that it works...very odd

Not so fast!

Yesterday I thought it solved the problem, as several trailers played good after joining the beta version.
Today I again have video trailers that won't play.
Okay and now they play.
It's almost like Steam's service had the problem...sometime it can stream the video, sometimes not.
(Sigh).

I had a friend with the same issue, He runs win 11, I run Win 10, But mine is fine.

So I looked through his win updates to see if perhaps a driver or software may have broken something, In the end i found MSEdgeView had been updated.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeWebView\Application\129.x.x.x.x"
So I renamed the folder with an underscore and installed the previous build.
https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webview2/?form=MA13LH#download
Forece updated steam and this fixed it, Until it updated again.
We tried the Beta fix but still no luck.
Using a beta version is NOT a fix. I haven't been and will not use a beta version, so this problem still exists and needs to be fixed. It's weird that Steam doesn't fix this since it might cost them sales (I always watch the store video before deciding to buy)
Well I came back to say it was all working again, as yesterday it was! Today it's back to being broken! wtaf!

I have exact same problem with Firefox (my favorite browser), Video playback on other site (i.e. YouTube, X, and others video stream website) seems fine.

Running Firefox with safe mode / private browsing / clear cookie / refresh or update Nvidia driver / reboot PC didn't help.

Note that my other browser ( Steam client, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge) do not have such issue after all.

Same issue here, using Steam beta and have done the update option that said I was up to date.

It seems a sporadic issue, sometimes videos play, other times (now) I can't play any store videos within Steam.

Take Fallout 4 as example, when I try to load it with Firefox, here's the log captured by firefox console:

Under Interface; disable hardware video decoding. I tried running in beta, did not work but this seemed to work for me.
